Morphological and molecular identification of Octopoda (Mollusca: Cephalopoda) paralarvae from the southern Gulf of Mexico

, 2021
Paralarvae (PL) are crucial to understanding the life cycle and population dynamics of cephalopods. Misidentification of species with similar morphology is a problem that hampers understanding of cephalopod composition and distribution. In this study, we

Using light traps to assess larval fish and octopus paralarvae diversity and ontogenetic structure around Santa Catalina Island, California

Bulletin of marine science
Monitoring planktonic larvae is important for understanding changes in recruitment, range shifts, and reproductive behavior. Here, we used light traps to examine the abundance, community diversity, and ontogenetic structure of ichthyoplankton and ...

Morphology and biochemical composition of eggs and paralarvae of the two-spotted octopus, Octopus bimaculatus

Latin American Journal of Aquatic Research
The study highlights the changes in the proximate composition and fatty acid (FA) profile of eggs and paralarvae and describes the chromatophore pattern and morphological changes in paralarvae.

Cephalopod paralarvae in a tropical Brazilian basin: distribution throughout oceanographic features and water masses

Bulletin of marine science
The composition and distribution of cephalopod paralarvae were investigated in the Campos Basin, a tropical area on the southeastern Brazilian continental margin with extensive oil exploration.

Horizontal and vertical distribution of cephalopod paralarvae in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2020
Horizontal and vertical distribution of cephalopod paralarvae (PL) from the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System (MBRS) in the Western Caribbean was studied during two oceanographic cruises in 2006 and 2007.

Evidence of external digestion of crustaceans in Octopus vulgaris paralarvae

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2000
This paper reports, for the first time, the existence of external digestion of decapod larvae by the common octopus, Octopus vulgaris (Mollusca: Cephalopoda), paralarvae. Zoeae of three crab species were externally digested, leaving a whole and empty exoskeleton.

Morphological characteristics of paralarvae of cephalopods found in Thai waters

Marine Biodiversity, 2016
Paralarvae of nine species of cephalopods, including the bobtail squid (Euprymna hyllebergi), sharp-tail pygmy squid (Idiosepius pygmaeus), bigfin reef squid (Sepioteuthis lessoniana), needle cuttlefish (Sepia aculeata), spineless cuttlefish (Sepiella inermis), Pharaoh cuttlefish (Sepia pharaonis), marble octopus (Amphioctopus aegina), lesser blue ...
