Effects of salinity on growth characteristics and osmoregulation of juvenile cobia, Rachycentron canadum (Linnaeus 1766), reared in potassium‐amended inland saline groundwater

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 52, Issue 1, Page 155-170, February 2021., 2021
Abstract The suitability of inland saline groundwater as a medium to culture juvenile cobia, Rachycentron canadum, was assessed. In the first experiment, juvenile cobia stocked in raw (unamended) saline groundwater at salinities of 5, 10, and 15 g/L exhibited complete mortality after 108, 176, and 195 hr, respectively.

Lymphocystic Disease in Wild Croaker (Micropogonias furnieri) and Flounder (Paralichthys orbignyanus)

open access: yesAsian Journal of Research in Zoology, 2020
Lymphocystis disease has been reported worldwide in several species of freshwater fish and marine fish, naturally infected in the wild environment, or in intensive crops in farms. Nodular warty lesions of irregular surface were observed in the tegument and fins and mouth in a species of croaker (Micropogonias furnieri) caught in Cassino beach Rio ...

Neuropeptide Y gene expression around meal time in the Brazilian flounder Paralichthys orbignyanus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biosciences, 2012
Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is considered the major stimulant for food intake in mammals and fish. Previous results indicate that NPY is involved in the feeding behaviour of the Brazilian flounder, Paralichthys orbignyanus. In this study, we evaluated hypothalamic NPY expression before (-2 h), during (0 h) and after feeding (+2 h) in two independent ...

Myxobolus sp. can cause in vivo myoliquefaction in the host Paralichthys orbignyanus (Osteichthyes, Paralichthydae) [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2007
We found intense myoliquefaction in vivo among specimens of wild and farmed South American flatfish Paralichthys orbignyanus Valenciennes, 1839. The soft flesh condition was attributed to Myxobolus sp. since the fish were not infected by myxosporeans which are usually associated with this condition (Kudoa spp.), and other causes (bacteria, fungi) were ...

Tolerance of Juvenile Flatfish Paralichthys orbignyanus to Acid Stress

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, 1997
Abstract.— The tolerance of juvenile flatfish Paralichthys orbignyanus to acid stress, was studied in 30‐L plastic tanks using ten flatfishes (95 ± 13 g) per treatment. Water pH was monitored every 3 h and re‐adjusted to the test pH using either HCl or NaOH.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Salmonella enterica isolates in fish species captured from the Lagoa dos Patos estuary

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2016
Microorganisms that cause human diseases can contaminate fishes in aquatic environments as well as during their capture, handling, and transport. The purpose of this study was to isolate Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Salmonella enterica from fishes ...

Advancements in edible films for aquatic product preservation and packaging

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 16, Issue 3, Page 997-1020, June 2024.
Abstract This review focuses on the incorporation of various bioactive compounds into edible films/coatings, improving their properties using novel techniques, and discussing their applications in aquatic food products. Aquatic food products with a high nutritional value play an important role in the market.

CARACTERIZACIÓN ESTACIONAL DE LA DIETA Y PERFIL DE ÁCIDOS GRASOS DE JUVENILES DE Paralichthys orbignyanus (Jenyns, 1842)

Tissue effect on RNA:DNA ratios of marine fish larvae

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2009
In some routine studies of larval condition based on RNA:DNA ratios, heads and/or guts are removed for further age and feeding analysis. Also, during capture larvae are often found with their eyes missing. In this work we analysed tissues effects (muscle,
