Dynparity: Dynamic disparity adjustment to avoid stereo window violations on stationary stereoscopic displays

open access: yesComputer Animation and Virtual Worlds, Volume 33, Issue 6, November/December 2022., 2022
Stereo window violations in 3D rendering occur when virtual objects in front of a physical screen are clipped at the screen borders. Dynparity introduces a real‐time, per‐vertex, nonuniform projection to eliminate this adversary effect. Our user study shows that Dynparity significantly reduces simulator sickness compared to standard stereo rendering on

Cinema, the Settler

open access: yesHumanities, 2023
While the history and technology of cinema are considered for the purpose of achieving decolonial ends, this paper suggests that ‘classic’ cinema may be considered a quintessentially settler colonial medium.

Orbital parallax of binary systems compared to GAIA DR3 and the parallax zero-point offset at bright magnitudes [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 669, A4 (2023), 2022
(abridged)Multiple systems for which the astrometric and spectroscopic orbit are known offer the unique possibility of determining the distance to these systems directly without any assumptions. They are therefore ideal objects for a comparison of Gaia data release 3 (GDR3) parallax data, especially since GDR3 presents the results of the non-single ...

Brown fat detection by infrared thermography—An invaluable research methodology with noteworthy uncertainties confirmed by a mathematical proof

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Infrared detection by thermal camera obeys Stefan's law of radiative heat transfer. This associated uncertainty in detection is estimated by the formula of propagation of error. Abstract Brown adipose tissue (BAT) represents a pivotal scientific renaissance worthy as a strategy for obesity and diabetes since its re‐discovery in adults over a decade ago.

V‐NeuroStack: Open‐source 3D time stack software for identifying patterns in neuronal data

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, Volume 101, Issue 2, Page 217-231, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Understanding functional correlations between the activities of neuron populations is vital for the analysis of neuronal networks. Analyzing large‐scale neuroimaging data obtained from hundreds of neurons simultaneously poses significant visualization challenges.

Parallax in microlensing toward the Magellanic Clouds: effect on detection efficiency and detectability [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics - A\&A, EDP Sciences, 2020, 636, pp.L9, 2020
Aims. We study the impact of the parallax on the search for very long timescale microlensing events towards the Magellanic Clouds due to dark massive compact objects within the past MACHO and EROS, the ongoing MOA and OGLE, and the future LSST surveys.

Exploiting Motion Perception in Depth Estimation Through a Lightweight Convolutional Neural Network

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Understanding the surrounding 3D scene is of the utmost importance for many robotic applications. The rapid evolution of machine learning techniques has enabled impressive results when depth is extracted from a single image.

The Hawaii Infrared Parallax Program. IV. A Comprehensive Parallax Survey of L0-T8 dwarfs with UKIRT [PDF]

open access: yesAJ, 159, 257 (2020), 2020
We present parallaxes, proper motions, and $J$-band photometry for 348 L and T dwarfs measured using the wide-field near-infrared camera WFCAM on the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope. This is the largest single batch of infrared parallaxes for brown dwarfs to date.
