Off line Parallax Correction for Neutral Particle Gas Detectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In a neutral particle gas detector, the parallax error resulting from the perpendicular projection on the detection plane or wire of the radial particle trajectories emanating from a point like source (such as a scattering sample) can significantly spoil

Stereo and motion parallax cues in human 3D vision: can they vanish without a trace? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In an immersive virtual reality environment, subjects fail to notice when a scene expands or contracts around them, despite correct and consistent information from binocular stereopsis and motion parallax, resulting in gross failures of size constancy (A.

Parallax Microlensing Events in the OGLE II Database Toward the Galactic Bulge [PDF]

open access: yesMon.Not.Roy.Astron.Soc. 332 (2002) 962, 2001
We present a systematic search for parallax microlensing events among a total of 512 microlensing candidates in the OGLE II database for the 1997-1999 seasons. We fit each microlensing candidate with both the standard microlensing model and also a parallax model that accounts for the Earth's motion around the Sun.

A CURRENT APPLICATION OF THE METHODS OF SECULAR AND STATISTICAL PARALLAX

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2012
The methods of secular and statistical parallax for homogeneous groups of Galactic stars are applied in a practical (classroom) exercise to establish the luminosity of bright B3 V stars. The solar motion of 20 km s-1 relative to group stars exceeds their

Visual binary stars with known orbits in Gaia EDR3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
3350 objects from the Sixth catalog of orbits of visual binary stars (ORB6) are investigated to validate Gaia EDR3 parallaxes and provide mass estimates for the systems. We show that 2/3 of binaries with 0.2 - 0.5 arcsec separation are left without a parallax solution in EDR3.

Tattoo: a multifaceted medium of communication

open access: yesMedieKultur: Journal of Media and Communication Research, 2010
This article suggests the systems theoretical distinction of form/medium as a useful tool for distinguishing social phenomena that might look as if they stem from the same process. This is shown to be the case for the tattoo and tattooing.

The parallax distorsion via a weak microlensing effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Parallax measurements allow distances to celestial objects to be determined. Coupled with measurement of their position on the celestial sphere, it gives a full three-dimensional picture of the location of the objects relative to the observer.
