On mapping parallel algorithms into parallel architectures

Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, 1987
Abstract The mapping problem arises when the communication structure of a parallel algorithm differs from the interconnection architecture of the intended parallel machine (topological variation). This problem is compounded when the number of processes required by the algorithm exceeds the number of processors available in the architecture ...

Interfacing parallel applications and parallel databases

Proceedings 13th International Conference on Data Engineering, 2002
The use of parallel database systems to deliver high performance has become quite common. Although queries submitted to these database systems are executed in parallel, the interaction between applications and current parallel database systems is serial.

Parallel user interfaces for parallel applications

Proceedings of 5th IEEE International Symposium on High Performance Distributed Computing HPDC-96, 1996
Many parallel applications are designed to conceal parallelism from the user. We investigate a different approach where the user controls many tasks running in parallel. The idea is to let a user accomplish his goal more quickly by trying competing alternatives in parallel (or-parallelism) and by working on subgoals in parallel (and-parallelism).

Asynchronous parallel simulation of parallel programs

IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, 2000
Parallel simulation of parallel programs for large datasets has been shown to offer significant reduction in the execution time of many discrete event models. The paper describes the design and implementation of MPI-SIM, a library for the execution driven parallel simulation of task and data parallel programs.

PARALLEL ADDITION AND PARALLEL SUBTRACTION OF OPERATORS

Mathematics of the USSR-Izvestiya, 1976
The parallel sum of two invertible nonnegative operators and in a Hilbert space is the operator . This definition was extended to noninvertible operators by Anderson and Duffin for the case and by Fillmore and Williams for the general case. The investigation of parallel addition is continued in this paper; in particular, associativity is proved ...

Parallel simulation of data parallel programs

1996
Accurate simulations of parallel programs for large datasets can often be slow; parallel execution has been shown to offer significant potential in reducing the execution time of many discrete-event simulators. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a parallel simulator called DPSIM that simulates the execution of data parallel ...

Parallelism in Practice: Approaches to Parallelism in Bioassays

PDA Journal of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, 2015
Relative potency bioassays are used to estimate the potency of a test biological product relative to a standard or reference product. It is established practice to assess the parallelism of the dose-response curves of the products prior to calculating relative potency. This paper provides a review of parallelism testing for bioassays.

Parallel Execution of Nested Parallel Expressions

Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, 1996
This paper describes an implementation of ParalationLispfor a massively parallel SIMD machine, the MasParMP-1. The system is based on a byte code interpreter which can emulate as many virtual processors on each physical processor as desired (within the limits of memory).

A PARALLEL SCHEDULING ALGORITHM FOR PARALLEL APPLICATIONS

Parallel Algorithms and Applications, 1995
In this work, a parallel scheduling algorithm for scheduling a set of n partially ordered tasks on an m-processor parallel computing system is studied. The method is based on a conventional list scheduling, in particular, an earliest-task-first approach. Otherwise, the algorithm developed is an original algorithm.
