Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) were analyzed to detect ESR1 mutations and methylation in patients with advanced breast cancer. CTC‐derived DNA showed higher sensitivity for mutation detection and revealed complementary genetic and epigenetic alterations, highlighting the added value of CTC analysis for understanding ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Evolution, Entropy, and Parallel Computation
In this paper the relationship between evolution and entropy is described for a model of self-reproducing parallel computation. As was recently shown [5], the performance of some types of parallel computation can be increased though a process analogous ...

Parallel divergence and degradation of the avian W sex chromosome
Sex chromosomes are ubiquitous in birds but our understanding of how they originated and evolved has remained incomplete. Recent work by Tsuda et al. on tinamou and ratite birds suggests that, although all bird sex chromosomes evolved from the same pair ...

Stellar evolution and social evolution: A study in parallel processes
The Сomparative Method in Astronomy To begin with, the parallels between stellar and social evolution are not be found simply in the outcome of the two processes. They also exist in the methods used by both astronomy and anthropology in arriving at them.

Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Pesticide resistance presents some of the best examples of evolution by natural selection in action. An exceptionally well‐documented case from recent years is the evolution of resistance to the diamide chlorantraniliprole in the striped rice stem‐borer ...

Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.
