Isolation and characterisation of the intermembrane space components of the mitochondrial TIM22 protein import machinery of Neurospora crassa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Mitochondria are essential cellular organelles of eukaryotic organisms, which import most of their proteinaceous constituents from the cytoplasm. Two mitochondrial membranes contain different translocation machineries which are involved in the import and

Parallel Imports: Striking a Delicate Balance in a Multifaceted Environment

open access: yesLex Portus
The article explores how states handle the legal, economic, and political aspects of parallel imports in light of the national interests and interests of IP owners, manufacturers, alternative importers, and consumers.

Single‐Cell Transcriptomic Analysis of Tumor Heterogeneity and the Microenvironment in Pseudomyxoma Peritonei

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a single‐cell atlas of pseudomyxoma peritonei spanning primary and paired metastatic lesions. Distinct epithelial substates, stromal remodeling, immune exclusion, lipid metabolic reprogramming, and a candidate angiogenic network were identified in metastatic lesions.

Remote Magnetomechanical Neuromodulation Uncovers Therapeutic Mechanisms for Alleviating Parkinsonian Symptoms in Freely Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.

PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS OF PARALLEL IMPORT

open access: yesVestnik Volgogradskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta. Ekonomika
Parallel imports are a necessary measure of state economic policy under unprecedented sanctions pressure, exerting both positive and negative effects on the economy. Administrative and quantitative performance indicators for parallel imports are defined. Adherence to these indicators minimizes (prevents) their negative impact on the economy and ensures

CDC Import Permit Program guidance on completing applications to import infectious biological agents, infectious substances, and vectors [PDF]

open access: yes
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Import Permit Program (IPP) regulates the importation of infectious biological materials that could cause disease in humans in order to prevent their introduction and spread into the United States. The

Mechanical Flexibility Enables DNA Origami to Overcome Steric Confinement in Mucus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical flexibility is introduced as a design parameter to enhance nanocarrier transport in mucus. Using DNA origami, flexibility is decoupled from size, shap and surface chemistry, revealing improved passage through confined hydrogel networks. While surface passivation reduces aggregation, flexibility further boosts transport, offering a general ...

Structure of an ex vivoDrosophila TOM complex determined by single-particle cryoEM

open access: yesIUCrJ
Most mitochondrial precursor proteins are encoded in the cell nucleus and synthesized on cytoplasmic ribosomes. The translocase of the outer membrane (TOM) is the main protein-import pore of mitochondria, recognizing nascent precursors of mitochondrially
