A Parameter Uniform Almost First Order Convergent Numerical Method for a Semi-Linear System of Singularly Perturbed Delay Differential Equations

open access: yesBIOMATH, 2014
In this paper an initial value problem for asemi-linear system of two singularly perturbed first order delay differential equations is considered on the interval(0,2]. The components of the solution of this system exhibit initial layers at 0 and interior layers at 1.

Fitted mesh numerical method for two-parameter singularly perturbed partial differential equations with large time lag

open access: yesPartial Differential Equations in Applied Mathematics
In this study, we devise a parameter-uniform second-order numerical method for two-parameter singularly perturbed partial differential equations with large time lag.

Regularization of Nonlinear Volterra Integral Equations of the First Kind with Smooth Data

open access: yesAppliedMath
The paper investigates the regularization of solutions to nonlinear Volterra integral equations of the first kind, under the assumption that a solution exists and belongs to the space of continuous functions.

A Cubic Spline Numerical Method for a Singularly Perturbed Two-Parameter Ordinary Differential Equation

open access: yesAxioms
This paper presents a uniformly convergent cubic spline numerical method for a singularly perturbed two-perturbation parameter ordinary differential equation.

Thermodynamic limit of the first-order phase transition in the Kuramoto model

open access: yes, 2005
In the Kuramoto model, a uniform distribution of the natural frequencies leads to a first-order (i.e., discontinuous) phase transition from incoherence to synchronization, at the critical coupling parameter $K_c$.

Compact Brownian surfaces I. Brownian disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We show that, under certain natural assumptions, large random plane bipartite maps with a boundary converge after rescaling to a one-parameter family ($\mathrm{BD}_L$, $0 < L < \infty$) of random metric spaces homeomorphic to the closed unit disk of ...

On a uniform approximation of motion by anisotropic curvature by the Allen-Cahn equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The convergence of solutions of anisotropic Allen-Cahn equations is studied when the interface thickness parameter(denoted by $\varepsilon$) tends to zero.

Second order parameter-uniform convergence for a finite difference method for a singularly perturbed linear parabolic system

open access: yes, 2010
A singularly perturbed linear system of second order partial differential equations of parabolic reaction-diffusion type with given initial and boundary conditions is considered. The leading term of each equation is multiplied by a small positive parameter. These singular perturbation parameters are assumed to be distinct.

Local Parametric Estimation in High Frequency Data

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, we give a general time-varying parameter model, where the multidimensional parameter possibly includes jumps. The quantity of interest is defined as the integrated value over time of the parameter process $\Theta = T^{-1} \int_0^T \theta_t^

Impact of a senior research thesis on students' perceptions of scientific inquiry in distinct student populations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study addressed how a senior research thesis is perceived by undergraduate students. It assessed students' perception of research skills, epistemological beliefs, and career goals in Biochemistry (science) and BDC (science‐business) students. Completing a thesis improved confidence in research skills, resilience, scientific identity, closed gender‐
