Unconstrained Spherical Parameterization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Graphics Tools, 2005
We introduce a novel approach for the construction of spherical parameterizations based on energy minimization. The energies are derived in a general manner from classic formulations well known in the planar parameterization setting (e.g., conformal, Tutte, area, stretch energies, etc.), based on the following principles: the energy should (1) be a ...

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Symmetry preserving parameterization schemes

open access: yes, 2012
Methods for the design of physical parameterization schemes that possess certain invariance properties are discussed. These methods are based on different techniques of group classification and provide means to determine expressions for unclosed terms ...

Magnetic Force Microscopy Signatures of Higher‐Order Skyrmions and Antiskyrmions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic force microscopy operated under vacuum conditions enables the qualitative identification of higher‐order skyrmions and antiskyrmions in Co/Ni multilayers at room temperature. Distinct stray‐field contrast signatures arise from vertical Bloch lines and complex domain‐wall configurations.

Longitudinal Hadronic Shower Development in a Combined Calorimeter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This work is devoted to the experimental study of the longitudinal hadronic shower development in the ATLAS barrel combined prototype calorimeter consisting of the lead-liquid argon electromagnetic part and the iron-scintillator hadronic part.

Generalized Euler Angle Paramterization for SU(N)

open access: yes, 2002
In a previous paper (math-ph/0202002) an Euler angle parameterization for SU(4) was given. Here we present the derivation of a generalized Euler angle parameterization for SU(N).

Applications of Deep Learning to Ocean Data Inference and Subgrid Parameterization

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2018
Oceanographic observations are limited by sampling rates, while ocean models are limited by finite resolution and high viscosity and diffusion coefficients. Therefore, both data from observations and ocean models lack information at small and fast scales.

Disordered Carbon Shells Enable Shape Dependent Fluorescence Enhancement in Nanodiamond Quantum Sensors Revealed by Correlative TEM–Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Molten KNO2 treatment induces a lowrefractive index disordered carbon shell on fluorescent nanodiamonds, enhancing fluorescence emission while preserving spin coherence. Machine learningassisted correlative TEMPL enables direct single‐particle resolution of this enhancement relative to air‐oxidized nanodiamonds of similar morphology, establishing a ...

A novel approach for introducing cloud spatial structure into cloud radiative transfer parameterizations

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2014
Subgrid-scale variability is one of the main reasons why parameterizations are needed in large-scale models. Although some parameterizations started to address the issue of subgrid variability by introducing a subgrid probability distribution function ...

Calibration and evaluation of the DSSAT/Canegro model for sugarcane cultivars under irrigation managements [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental
Model calibration is a fundamental factor to obtain high accuracy in the estimation of crop growth and yield. This study aimed to parameterize the genetic and ecotype coefficients of the DSSAT/Canegro model for five sugarcane cultivars kept under three ...
