Tau Aggregate Imaging and Transcriptomics of Alzheimer's Disease Brain at Different Stages of Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The protein aggregates and gene expression in the middle temporal gyrus (MTG) and somatosensory cortex (SOM) of the postmortem brains of 13 Alzheimer's disease patients were studied in detail, revealing that small hyperphosphorylated tau aggregates increase with Braak stage driven by microglial inflammation.

Statistical Analysis of Random Simulations: Bootstrap Tutorial [PDF]

open access: yes
The bootstrap is a simple but versatile technique for the statistical analysis of random simulations. This tutorial explains the basics of that technique, and applies it to the well-known M/M/1 queuing simulation. In that numerical example, different ...

A Huaxian Formula Nanoformulation Confers Protection Against Acute Radiation‐Induced Lung Injury by Targeting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An inhalable, nanoengineered herbal therapy achieves protection against acute radiation‐induced lung injury via self‐assembled nanomicelle‐mediated pulmonary targeting and a previously unrecognized dual mechanism that attenuates oxidative stress while inhibiting ferroptosis in alveolar epithelial cells.

Bootstrap Confidence Sets for the Number of Components in Finite Mixture Regression Models

open access: yesMathematics
Finite mixture regression analyses usually treat the selected number of components as fixed, although neighboring orders may be difficult to distinguish. This paper develops a set-valued procedure for the order of a Gaussian finite mixture regression.

A Score Based Approach to Wild Bootstrap Inference [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a generalization of the wild bootstrap of Wu (1986) and Liu (1988) based upon perturbing the scores of M-estimators. This "score bootstrap" procedure avoids recomputing the estimator in each bootstrap iteration, making it substantially less ...

Towards a Compositional Framework for Describing Human Phenotypes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Phenotype Assembly Method (PhenoAM) decomposes phenotype variables into measurable Features and typed Qualifiers, enabling standardized, machine‐readable Phenome Data Elements (PhenoDEs) that preserve measurement context. Applied in the International Human Phenome Project (IHPP), the framework yields 58 371 PhenoDEs and supports component‐level ...

A Real‐Data‐Driven Framework for Evaluating Differential Transcript Usage Methods Across Long‐Read Bulk, Single‐Cell, and Spatial Transcriptomics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Grounded in real biological RNA‐seq data, the framework benchmarks ten differential transcript usage (DTU) methods across short‐read bulk, long‐read bulk, long‐read single‐cell, and long‐read spatial transcriptomics. By integrating reference transcript sets with ranked DTU results, the Transcript Set Enrichment Score (TSES) identifies data‐type ...

Palaeoproteomic Deconvolution of Physical and Genetic Collagen Mixtures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ClassiCOL_v2 uses a novel “peptide patching” framework that treats any collagen sample as a patchwork of peptide sequences derived from phylogenetically related species. This allows the algorithm to simultaneously resolve two previously intractable problems: multi‐species samples and/or database deficiencies.

Groupcompare: A holistic approach to two sample data analysis

open access: yesSoftwareX
The groupcompare R package provides a unified framework for two-sample statistical comparisons. It addresses critical limitations of traditional methods by integrating parametric, non-parametric, permutation, and bootstrap-based techniques within a ...

Asymptotic and bootstrap inference for inequality and poverty measures [PDF]

open access: yes
A random sample drawn from a population would appear to offer an ideal opportunity to use the bootstrap in order to perform accurate inference, since the observations of the sample are IID.
