Dissecting the Ecological Structure of Health and Disease in the Global Gut Microbiome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce Wiredancer, a framework that identifies three continuous ecological factors of the gut microbiota. These factors exhibit distinct patterns across health and disease, jointly capturing disrupted ecological stability and offering a new perspective for precision diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.

USEFULNESS OF BOOTSTRAPPING IN PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT

open access: yesCroatian Operational Research Review, 2012
This paper contains a comparison of in-sample and out-of-sample performances between the resampled efficiency technique, patented by Richard Michaud and Robert Michaud (1999), and traditional Mean-Variance portfolio selection, presented by Harry ...

On the Simulation Study of Jackknife and Bootstrap MSE Estimators of a Domain Mean Predictor for Fay‑Herriot Model

open access: yesActa Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Oeconomica, 2017
We consider the problem of the estimation of the mean squared error (MSE) of some domain mean predictor for Fay‑Herriot model. In the simulation study we analyze properties of eight MSE estimators including estimators based on the jackknife method (Jiang,

Efficient bootstrap estimates for tail statistics [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2017
Bootstrap resamples can be used to investigate the tail of empirical distributions as well as return value estimates from the extremal behaviour of the sample.

Microscale Mapping of Fiber Strain and Damage in Composite Wrinkled Laminates Using Computed Tomography Assisted Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

A novel parametric predictive bootstrap method [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Statistics - Theory and Methods
Bootstrap methods are widely used statistical techniques known for their simplicity and good properties. This paper introduces a novel bootstrap method called the parametric predictive bootstrap (PP-B), which relies on parametric models and is designed ...

Prior Expectations Bias Confidence Judgments Through Parietal Alpha‐Band Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Humans possess the metacognitive ability to estimate the likely accuracy of their own decisions through confidence judgments. Yet, whether prior information shapes confidence and the neural mechanisms mediating such influence, remain to be determined.

MANOVA for Nested Designs with Unequal Cell Sizes and Unequal Cell Covariance Matrices

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2014
We propose and study parametric bootstrap (PB) tests for heteroscedastic two-factor MANOVA with nested designs. For the problem of testing “main effects” of both factors, we develop a flexible test based on a parametric bootstrap approach. The PB test is

Asymptotic refinements of bootstrap tests in a linear regression model ; A CHM bootstrap using the first four moments of the residuals [PDF]

open access: yes
We consider linear regression models and we suppose that disturbances are either Gaussian or non Gaussian. Then, by using Edgeworth expansions, we compute the exact errors in the rejection probability (ERPs) for all one-restriction tests (asymptotic and ...

Natural Variation of NAR5 Determines Nitrogenase Activity and the Yield in Soybean

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identified NAR5, a gene encoding a subtilisin‐like protease, that regulates nitrogenase activity in soybean nodules. Overexpressing NAR5 delayed nodule senescence, enhancing nitrogenase activity, yield, and low‐nitrogen tolerance. The elite haplotype NAR5HapI‐1 linked to superior nitrogenase activity and greater seed weight has been ...
