Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Fragility of Highway Embankments Exposed to Permanent Deformations Due to Underlying Fault Rupture

open access: yesGeosciences
Seismic risk expresses the expected degree of damage and loss following a catastrophic event. An efficient tool for assessing the seismic risk of embankments is fragility curves.

Numerical investigation on sealing performance of drainage pipeline inspection gauge crossing pipeline elbows

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2021
A pipeline inspection gauge (PIG) is routinely passed throughout the long‐distance oil and gas pipelines by pipeline operators to clean the pipeline. Sealing performance is a significant evaluation index for PIG's safety operation.

Modelling of Parametric Resonance for Heaving Buoys with Position-Varying Waterplane Area

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
Exploiting parametric resonance may enable increased performance for wave energy converters (WECs). By designing the geometry of a heaving WEC, it is possible to introduce a heave-to-heave Mathieu instability that can trigger parametric resonance.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Parametric conditions and exact solution for the Duffing-Van der Pol class of equations

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2018
This paper presents a methodology to find the exact solution and respective parametric conditions to the Duffing-Van der Pol class of equations. The supposed method in this paper is different from the Prelle and Singer method and the Lie symmetry method.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

On historical earthquakes in Switzerland: summary of compilations and investigations

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2004
Studies of historical earthquakes in Switzerland are contained in monographs, chronological collections of effects and parametric catalogues. The systematic collection of macroseismic material started with the creation of the Swiss Seismological ...
