Parametric resonance in unsteady watertable flow
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2015The stability of unsteady open-channel flow down an inclined plane is studied using an iterative approach based on the direct and adjoint stability equations combined with a physically justified energy measure. An efficient parametric resonance mechanism has been identified between the exogenous base-flow oscillations and the intrinsic frequencies of ...

On the parametric resonance density
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1980Abstract The relation between the asymptotic density of the eigenfrequencies of elastic systems and their reactions to parametric vibrational effects is examined. Main attention is paid to the relationship between the density of simple parametric resonances at which one of the eigenmodes of the system is mostly excited, and the density of the ...

Parametric Resonances of Columns
2019This chapter aims to give a general overview of the parametric resonances of columns under a harmonically pulsating force. In addition to simple resonance, combination resonances of sum and difference type are introduced, with columns having various kinds of boundary condition, other than pinned-pinned ends.

The First Parametric Resonance
2017Linear periodically nonstationary systems are described by linear differential equations with either one or several periodically variable coefficients. In contrast to the coordinates, that describe the motion of the system, the periodically variable coefficients are called periodically variable parameters.

Parametric vibrations and resonance
2003Summary: We examine a system of linear differential equations with periodic coefficients depending on parameters. For small changing parameters, the monodromy matrix and eigenvalues are constructed. We consider the problem of stability of trivial solution of the damped Hill equation and obtain the domains of stability in the parameter space.

Damping by Parametric Stiffness Excitation: Resonance and Anti-Resonance
Journal of Vibration and Control, 2008Investigations are presented into the stability of vibration suppression employing variable-stiffness actuators. Systems with an arbitrary number of degrees of freedom are considered, and are subject to both parametric excitation and self-excitation.

RESONANT LAYERS IN A PARAMETRICALLY EXCITED PENDULUM
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2002The energy increment spectrum method is developed for the numerical prediction of a specific primary resonant layer, and the width of the resonant layer can be estimated through the energy increment spectrum. This numerical approach is applied to investigate the (2M:1)-librational and (M:1)-rotational, resonant layers in a parametrically excited ...
