Generalized LFT-Based Representation of Parametric Uncertain Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper, we introduce a general descriptor-type linear fractional transformation (LFT) representation of rational parametric matrices. This is a generalized representation of arbitrary rationally dependent multivariate functions in LFT-form.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Parametric Identification for the Biased Ship Roll Motion Model Using Genocchi Polynomials

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2022
Roll motion is one of the key motions related to a vessel’s dynamic stability. It is essential for the dynamic stability of ships in the realistic sea. For this research study, we have investigated the parameters involved in damping of the ship.

Dynamical Models of Extreme Rolling of Vessels in Head Waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Rolling of a ship is a swinging motion around its length axis. In particular vessels transporting containers may show large amplitude roll when sailing in seas with large head waves.

N-flation

open access: yes, 2005
The presence of many axion fields in four-dimensional string vacua can lead to a simple, radiatively stable realization of chaotic inflation.Comment: 16 pages, 0 figures, latex; v2: added refs; v3: more refs, correction to \S2.

Process‐Informed Analysis of As‐Built Metal Additive Surface Features

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article introduces a novel method for feature‐based surface texture characterisation directly incorporating manufacturing variables into the feature extraction workflow. This marks a major step towards identifying process‐specific surface properties and their influence on part function and hence a holistic understanding of process–structure ...

Domain wall dynamics in an optical Kerr cavity

open access: yes, 2005
An anisotropic (dichroic) optical cavity containing a self-focusing Kerr medium is shown to display a bifurcation between static --Ising-- and moving --Bloch-- domain walls, the so-called nonequilibrium Ising-Bloch transition (NIB).

The Impact of High‐Productivity Processing on the Fatigue Failure of an Additive Manufactured Superalloy HAYNES 282

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The low cycle fatigue life of additive manufactured HAYNES® 282® superalloy was investigated for conventional and high‐productivity processing: samples of the former lasted 1400–1700 cycles, while samples of the latter failed at ~ 1200 cycles, at 760 °C and 1% strain.

Impact of other scalar fields on oscillons after hilltop inflation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Oscillons are spatially localized and relatively stable field fluctuations which can form after inflation under suitable conditions. In order to reheat the universe, the fields which dominate the energy density after inflation have to couple to other ...

Elinvar Materials: Recent Progress and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Elinvar materials, exhibiting temperature‐invariant elastic modulus, are critical for precision instruments and emerging technologies. This article reviews recent progress in the field, with a focus on the anomalous thermoelastic behavior observed in key material systems.
