Parametric rolling estimation on high waves

2007
The development of a general procedure for the analytical approximation of the restoring arm in regular head waves is presented. The aim of the approximation is to obtain an analytical and accurate means for nonlinear parametric roll prediction. The model is based on a modified STF strip method developed for calculation of coupled heaving and pitching ...

Simple methods for parametric rolling estimation

2008
The main objective of this article is to outline a simple method to identify whether a ship is susceptible to extreme rolling, in order to avoid or to reduce the effects of that phenomenon. A short review of the current classification societie recommendations is given, as well as a brief description of the physical phenomenon of parametric roll ...

Simple Analytical Criteria for Parametric Rolling

2011
Analytical design criteria are sought for predicting the parametric rolling behavior of ships, taking into account: the growth rate during the inception stage of parametric rolling; and the steady amplitude that is reached when regular parametric excitation is assumed.

ALGORITHM FOR ESTIMATING THE PARAMETRIC ROLL MOTIONS

International Journal of Modern Manufacturing Technologies
For a ship, both synchronous and parametric roll motions can be modelled by nonlinear second-order differential equations with the roll angle as dependent variable and the nonlinearities coming from the damping and restoring moments. In the absence of exact solution techniques, approximate solutions for such equations can be obtained, in principle ...

Parametric Rolling of Ships – Then and Now

2011
Modern research on parametric rolling of ships was first conducted in Germany in the late 1930s. This work was initiated in an effort to explain the capsizing of some small ships such as coasters and fishing vessels in severe following seas. The work included experiments with models in open water as well as numerical and theoretical computations.
