Conformational Isomerization Involving Conserved Proline Residues Modulates Oligomerization of the NS1 Interferon Response Inhibitor from the Syncytial Respiratory Virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Interferon response suppression by the respiratory syncytial virus relies on two unique nonstructural proteins, NS1 and NS2, that interact with cellular partners through high-order complexes.

The role of cellular adhesion molecules in virus attachment and entry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
As obligate intracellular parasites, viruses must traverse the host-cell plasma membrane to initiate infection. This presents a formidable barrier, which they have evolved diverse strategies to overcome.

Characterization of a genetic and antigenic variant of avian paramyxovirus 6 isolated from a migratory wild bird, the red-necked stint (Calidris ruficollis) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A hemagglutinating virus (8KS0813) was isolated from a red-necked stint. Hemagglutination inhibition and neutralization tests indicated that 8KS0813 was antigenically related to a prototype strain, APMV-6/duck/Hong Kong/18/199/77, but with an 8- and 16 ...

Sendai Virus Propagation Using Chicken Eggs

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2018
Sendai virus is a member of the family Paramyxoviridae, and an enveloped virus with a negative-stranded RNA genome. Sendai virus is not pathogenic to humans, but for mice and can cause pneumonia in mice.

Advances in the design and development of oncolytic measles viruses. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A successful oncolytic virus is one that selectively propagates and destroys cancerous tissue without causing excessive damage to the normal surrounding tissue. Oncolytic measles virus (MV) is one such virus that exhibits this characteristic and thus has

Novel Paramyxovirus Associated with Severe Acute Febrile Disease, South Sudan and Uganda, 2012

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2014
In 2012, a female wildlife biologist experienced fever, malaise, headache, generalized myalgia and arthralgia, neck stiffness, and a sore throat shortly after returning to the United States from a 6-week field expedition to South Sudan and Uganda.

The Nucleotide Sequence of the Matrix (M) Protein Gene of Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) Strain AF 2240 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The complete nucleotide sequence of the matrix (M) protein gene of the local Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strain AF 2240 was determined. Based on consensus primers, several segments of the M gene were reverse transcribed and amplified by the ...

Solution and crystallographic structures of the central region of the phosphoprotein from human metapneumovirus.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) of the family Paramyxoviridae is a major cause of respiratory illness worldwide. Phosphoproteins (P) from Paramyxoviridae are essential co-factors of the viral RNA polymerase that form tetramers and possess long intrinsically

Significant differences in nucleocapsid morphology within the Paramyxoviridae

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2002
Nucleocapsid (N) proteins from representative viruses of three genera within the Paramyxoviridae were expressed in insect cells using recombinant baculoviruses. RNA-containing structures, which appear morphologically identical to viral nucleocapsids, were isolated and subsequently imaged under a transmission electron microscope.

Identification of Viruses in Molossus Bats from the Brazilian Amazon: A Descriptive Metagenomic Analysis

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Bats are widely distributed in Brazil, including the Amazon region, and their association with viral pathogens is well-known. This work aimed to evaluate the metavirome in samples of Molossus sp.
