Paramyxoviridae: Measles Virus
1988Disease: Measles. Etiologic Agent: Measles virus; a single serotype. Source: Acutely infected individuals; contact or inhalation. Clinical Manifestations: Abrupt onset of disease with sneezing, running nose, cough, redness of eyes, and rapidly rising fever; 2 to 3 days later, a maculopapular exanthema develops; complications in the form of otitis ...

The Paramyxoviridae: Aspects of Molecular Structure, Pathogenesis, and Immunity
1989Publisher Summary This chapter discusses some structural and replicative properties as well as molecular aspects of pathogenesis and immunity of diseases caused by the virus family Paramyxoviridae. The importance of the Paramyxoviridae as ubiquitous disease agents in humans and animals necessitates a complete understanding of the molecular structure ...

Publisher Summary Paramyxoviridae are enveloped viruses with a helical nucleocapsid containing an unsegmented single-stranded RNA genome of negative polarity. They replicate in the cytoplasm of infected cells. Cytopathic effects differ with members of the group and host cell, ranging from extensive cell-cell fusion in some systems, cell rounding, and

Development of Subunit Paramyxoviridae Vaccines
1994The Paramyxoviridae are negative-stranded, non-segmented RNA viruses which share similar structural features (Pringle, 1991). The helically symmetrical viral nucleocapsids are surrounded by a lipoprotein envelope. The Paramyxoviridae family has been classified into three genera: Paramyxovirus, Morbillivirus and Pneumovirus.
