Idiopathic Photodermatitis With a Positive Paraphenylenediamine Photopatch Test
Archives of Dermatology, 1984A 61-year-old man was seen for a long-standing, recurrent eczematous dermatitis that appeared only in the summer. A patch test with ammoniated mercury was positive. Photopatch reactions to caine mix and paraphenylenediamine were positive, and phototesting disclosed an idiopathic photosensitivity to UV-A.

[Systemic toxicity of paraphenylenediamine. 4 cases].
Presse medicale (Paris, France : 1983), 1989Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) poisoning has been known for many years, but few studies have been devoted to the subject. We report 4 cases, seen in the nephrology department, concerning women aged from 18 to 35 years who had tried to commit suicide by drinking varying amounts of that hair dye.

Clinical profile of paraphenylenediamine intoxication
Rawal Medical JournalHair dyes are widely used for decorative skin paint, nail coloring, and hair dye. Hair dye toxicity has been attributed to adding a synthetic dye paraphenylenediamine (PPD). PPD is added to natural henna to accentuate the dark color and shorten the duration of application.
