METAZOAN PARASITE INFRACOMMUNITIES OF FLORIDA POMPANO (TRACHINOTUS CAROLINUS) FROM THE COAST OF THE YUCATAN PENINSULA, MEXICO

Journal of Parasitology, 2002
Metazoan parasite infracommunities of the Florida pompano (Trachinotus carolinus) were studied in terms of species composition, species richness, diversity, numerical dominance, and similarity. Seventy-five fishes were collected from 4 localities along the Yucatan Peninsula coast and 24 parasite species recovered.

Metazoan Parasite Infracommunities of Menticirrhus (Teleostei: Sciaenidae): An Amphi-Oceanic Approximation

Journal of Parasitology, 1999
Metazoan infracommunities of Menticirrhus ophicephalus from the south Pacific Ocean and M. americanus from the south Atlantic Ocean were analyzed and compared. The metazoan parasite infracommunities of M. ophicephalus showed higher values of total number of parasite individuals/host and parasite species richness than that of M americanus, but M ...

Parasite counts or parasite incidences? Testing differences with four analyses of infracommunity modelling for seven parasite–host associations

Parasitology Research, 2021
One of the challenges in studies of parasite community ecology is whether the input data for analyses should be parasite abundances/counts, i.e. count data (CD), or parasite incidences (presences/absences), i.e. incidence data (ID). We analysed species responses to environmental factors and species associations in the infracommunities of helminths and ...

Patterns in the infracommunity and component community structures of parasites in wrasses (Labridae): the importance of some biological characteristics of hosts and parasites [PDF]

open access: possible, 2023
The complexity of parasite communities is well known because the habitats are composed of live organisms and the life cycles are often complex (e.g. endoparasites often require 1-4 host species). Thus, parasite communities should not be analysed simplistically by using only a few variables and descriptors, because such as approach will provide limited ...

Parasite infracommunities of a specialized marine fish species in a compound community dominated by generalist parasites

Journal of Helminthology, 2009
AbstractThe structure and composition of parasite communities of Mullus argentinae were analysed under two alternative hypotheses in a sample of 75 specimens caught off Mar del Plata, Argentina (38°27′S, 57°90′W). The first, based on the dominance of trophically transmitted larval parasites of low host-specificity among fish species in the region ...

Metazoan Parasite Infracommunities of the Toadfish Aphos porosus (Pisces: Batrachoidiformes) in Central Chile: How Variable Are They over Time?

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology, 2009
The present study examines variation in parasite community characteristics of the toadfish Aphos porosus across sampling years. We analyzed and compared the species composition and numeric descriptors of the parasite infrapopulations and infracommunities in 101 fish collected during the springs of 1999, 2006, and 2007 from rocky intertidal ponds in El ...

The importance of the compound community on the parasite infracommunity structure in a small benthic fish

Parasitology Research, 2008
The extent to which the structure of parasite infracommunities and component communities is determined by the composition of the compound community was assessed by determining the importance of unspecific larval parasites relative to the other guilds (ectoparasites and adult endoparasites).

Metazoan Parasite Infracommunities of the Tomtate Grunt (Haemulon aurolineatum) as Potential Bioindicators of Environmental Conditions in the Yucatan Continental Shelf, Mexico

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2021
Metazoan parasites and their hosts experience the environmental influence of the seasonal presence of Western and Eastern subzones with different oceanographic conditions on the Yucatan continental shelf (YS). In addition, natural seeps and oil transport in the area lead to the presence of hydrocarbons.

Effects of Interspecific Interactions on Infracommunities of Helminths Parasitizing Creek Chub (Semotilus atromaculatus)

Comparative Parasitology, 2021
Natural infections of Allocreadium lobatum Wallin, 1909 (Trematoda), Proteocephalus sp. (Cestoda), Rhabdochona canadensis Moravec and Arai, 1971 (Nematoda), Paulisentis missouriensis Keppner, 1974 (Acanthocephala), and Schyzocotyle acheilognathi (Yamaguti, 1934) (Cestoda) in the intestine of creek chub (Semotilus atromaculatus) were analyzed to ...
