Infracommunity crowding as an individual measure of interactive-isolationist degree of parasite communities: disclosing the effects of extrinsic and host factors [PDF]
Interactions between parasite species within a host play a fundamental role in shaping parasite communities that have been classified within a continuum between interactive and isolationist. Interactive communities are principally structured by interactions between parasite species, while isolationist communities are structured by processes independent

Between April and December 2000, seventy-nine specimens of Centropomus undecimalis from Angra dos Reis, coastal zone of the State of Rio de Janeiro (23º01'S, 44º19'W), Brazil, were necropsied to study their infracommunities of metazoan parasites.

Retroviral Infections Affect Survival and Clutch Size of Female Wild Turkeys
We investigated the effects of two oncogenic retroviruses, lymphoproliferative disease virus (LPDV) and reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV), on survival and reproduction of wild turkeys in Maine. REV infection reduced female annual survival by nearly half, while LPDV‐infected hens laid fewer eggs, though other reproductive metrics were unaffected.

Ontogenetic changes in heterogeneity of parasite communities of fish: disentangling the relative role of compositional versus abundance variability [PDF]
In order to determine how much of the variability in parasite assemblages is driven by differences in composition or in abundance we used multivariate dispersions (average distance from infracommunities to their size class centroid in the multivariate ...

Waterbirds and Other Drivers of Endoparasite Communities Across a Hierarchy of Spatial Scales
ABSTRACT Understanding drivers of parasite community structure is compromised by poor sampling and historical focus on one host‐one parasite systems. Yet parasites are ubiquitous and co‐infections are common. This study aimed to identify how various drivers, ranging from landscape scale (waterbird movements, hydrological connectivity, region, host ...

STREBLID BAT FLIES ON PHYLLOSTOMID BATS FROM AN ISLAND OFF THE COAST OF SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL
Streblidae is the family of bloodsucking flies, mostly tropical and subtropical, that are obligate ectoparasites of bats. A high number of these fly species are found in the Atlantic Forest, but there is little information about their quantitative ...
