The Parasitism of the Ringworm Group of Fungi

Archives of Dermatology, 1958
The role of the dermatophytes in those conditions recognized clinically as ringworm has been appreciated for over 100 years, and the whole subject has, during this time, been a source of continued interest both to dermatologists and to mycologists. It is, therefore, surprising that we still know so little about the factors which determine and control ...

Parasites and autoimmunity: The case of fungi

Autoimmunity Reviews, 2008
Infectious agents can induce autoimmune diseases in several experimental settings, some of which have clinical counterparts. A variety of mechanisms have been invoked to explain these observations, including molecular mimicry and an increase in the immunogenicity of autoantigens caused by inflammation in the target organ.

Parasitic castration of plants by fungi

Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 1991
If the production of genetically variable offspring is a mechanism of host defense against parasites, then parasites capable of suppressing sexual reproduction in hosts may gain a selective advantage over parasites that do not do so. Recent work has shown that a range of systemic fungi infecting plants sterilize their hosts, effectively preventing ...

Fossils of parasitic fungi

2022
Parasitic fungi occur in virtually every ecosystem, where they can significantly affect the functions of other organisms. Fungal parasites were probably also widespread in the geologic past. However, evidence of fossil fungi and their ecological roles is relatively rare.

Fungi as parasites of plants

2016
Abstract Parasitic fungi that grow on plants have reshaped the biosphere and caused the deaths of millions of people since the beginning of agriculture. Dutch elm disease and chestnut blight are examples of fungal pandemics that resulted in widespread ecological changes in the 20th century.

Parasitic fungi from the province of Manisa

Mycopathologia, 1982
This paper is a study of the parasitic fungi of Manisa. 32 species of parasitic fungi have been discovered of which 2 species are new for the Turkish parasitic fungal nora. Also, new hosts for 13 of these species are reported in Turkey for the first time.
