In vitro host-free seed culture, callus development and organogenesis of an obligatory root-parasite Striga hermonthica (Del.) Benth: the witch-weed and medicinal plant

open access: yesInternational Journal of Plant Biology, 2011
Striga hermonthica (Del.) Benth a well-known hemi-parasitic weed, it also has been used widely in African folk medicine to remedy broad spectra of diseases. The current contribution is an attempt to establish reproducible in vitro callusing system.

Do cover crops modify the structure of soil nematodes under banana fields? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The introduction of cover crops in banana fields develops in Martinique within the context of more sustainable cropping systems. To assess changes in nematode communities, we compared the use of living mulch of grass (Paspalum notatum) and legumes ...

Solute flux into parasitic plants [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2001
Parasitic plants form intimate contacts with host tissue in order to gain access to host solutes. There are a variety of cell types within the host which parasitic plants could access to extract solutes. Depending on the degree to which the parasite has embraced the parasitic lifestyle, the extent of solute flux and the pathways used to transfer ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

First detection and prevalence of Apis mellifera filamentous virus in Apis mellifera and Varroa destructor in the Republic of Korea

open access: yesScientific Reports
Apis mellifera filamentous virus (AmFV) is a double-stranded DNA virus that infects Apis mellifera bees. To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive study aiming to detect and analyse the genetic diversity and prevalence of AmFV in Korean honeybee ...

The plant-pathogen haustorial interface at a glance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Many filamentous pathogens invade plant cells through specialized hyphae called haustoria. These infection structures are enveloped by a newly synthesized plant-derived membrane called the extrahaustorial membrane (EHM).

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control
