Integrated control of slug damage in organic vegetable crops- OF 0158 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Slugs are important pests of a wide range of organic vegetable crops, which are high quality products, desired by consumers. Slug problems are especially acute in comparison to conventional vegetable production because use of chemical control measures is

Molecular Phylogeny and Strain Genotyping of the Bacterial Endosymbiont Wolbachia Associated With Tuta absoluta Populations

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
This study was designed to understand the association between reproductive endosymbiotic bacteria and wild and laboratory‐reared Tuta absoluta populations. The majority of T. absoluta populations showed Wolbachia presence at varying levels of infection, whereas Arsenophonus, Cardinium, and Spiroplasma were not detected. Wolbachia‐positive T.

Weeds: reserves of parasitic phytonematode species populations

open access: yesAdvanced Agritechnologies, 2017

The Effects of LED Daylength Extensions on the Daily Activity Patterns of a Greenhouse Biological Control Agent, Aphidius matricariae

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We used automated activity monitors to examine how light‐emitting diode illumination affects the daily locomotor activity of the parasitoid biocontrol agent Aphidius matricariae. We compared 4‐ to 20 h broad‐spectrum white (BSW) photoperiods, and 12 h BSW photoperiods extended with an additional 6 h of red‐blue, red‐green‐blue, or BSW light, or no ...

Chemical Control of the Field Dodder (Cuscuta campestris) in New-Seeded Alfalfa (Medicago sativa)

open access: yesAgronomy
Field dodder (Cuscuta campestris yuncker) is an important parasitic weed that has negative impacts on the growth and yield of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.). Effective control of field dodder in alfalfa crops is necessary to reduce yield losses.

Farmers and Agricultural Extension Officers Perception of Striga gesnerioides (Willd.) Vatke Parasitism on Cowpea in the Upper East Region of Ghana

open access: yesAdvances in Agriculture, 2018
Cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp] is an important food security crop in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, cowpea production in some parts of this region is constrained by Striga gesnerioides (Willd.) Vatke infestation resulting in yield losses.

\u3cem\u3eCuscuta Jepsonii\u3c/em\u3e (Convolvulaceae): An Invasive Weed or an Extinct Endemic? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Despite their ecological significance, parasitic plants face more conservation challenges than do autotrophic plants. This is especially true for the groups that include weedy or invasive species such as Cuscuta.

Spectral Characterization of the Life Stages and Physiological Responses of Diatraea saccharalis Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) Larvae Parasitized by Cotesia flavipes Cameron (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Hyperspectral proximal sensing was used to characterize the life stages and physiological responses of Diatraea saccharalis and to detect parasitism by Cotesia flavipes. Distinct spectral signatures differentiated eggs, larval instars, pupae, and adults, as well as live, dead, and parasitized larvae.

Pectin Remodeling and Involvement of AtPME3 in the Parasitic Plant–Plant Interaction, Phelipanche ramosaArabidospis thaliana

open access: yesPlants
Phelipanche ramosa is a root parasitic plant fully dependent on host plants for nutrition and development. Upon germination, the parasitic seedling develops inside the infected roots a specific organ, the haustorium, thanks to the cell wall-degrading ...

The allelopathic influence of Anethum graveolens seed powder in controlling Orobanche crenata infesting Vicia faba and its effect on the crop growth and yield [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection
Two pot experiments were performed in the wire greenhouse of the National Research Centre, Dokki, Giza, Egypt during two successive winter seasons of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 to study the allelopathic efficiency of Anethum graveolens seed powder (AGSP) in
