THE SPINAL PARASYMPATHETIC. Seventh Article. PARASYMPATHETIC NERVE‐SUPPLY OF THE KIDNEY

Quarterly Journal of Experimental Physiology, 1933
Stimulation of the spinal parasympathetic fibres in the greater and lesser splanchnics causes vasodilatation of the renal blood‐vessels, but the spinal parasympathetic fibres in the lumbar sympathetic trunk do not play a prominent part in such vasodilatation. The spinal parasvmpathetic fibres exert specific secretory effects upon the kidney. The greater

Effect of enalapril on parasympathetic activity

Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy, 1990
To evaluate the effect of converting enzyme inhibition induced by enalapril on parasympathetic activity, we studied ten essential hypertensive patients, age range 38-58 years, WHO I-II. Parasympathetic evaluation was obtained by measuring the variation of heart period (VHP) during at least 1 minute of steady-state, regular respiration.

Parasympathetic Innervation of the Rat Cornea

Experimental Eye Research, 1998
The mammalian cornea receives a dense sensory innervation and a modest sympathetic innervation. The purpose of the current study was to determine if the rat cornea is also innervated by parasympathetic nerves. In the first set of experiments, unilateral combined sympathetic and sensory ocular denervations were performed in adult rats by surgical ...

Parasympathetic Denervation of the Iris in Uremia

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1988
Excerpt To the Editor:Fraser and colleagues (1) have reported autonomic dysfunction in uremia. Parasympathetic pupillary denervation, however, was not mentioned.

Parasympathetic schwannoma of the submandibular gland

Auris Nasus Larynx, 2001
Schwannomas of the submandibular gland have only been documented sporadically throughout the medical literature. We describe a case of schwannoma of the submandibular gland originating from the submandibular branch of the lingual nerve, which carries the preganglionic parasympathetic nerve fibers.

Sympathoadrenal and parasympathetic responses to exercise

Journal of Sports Sciences, 1986
Exhaustive exercise is associated with a persistent sensation of weakness and sometimes nausea suggesting abdominal vagal activity. We measured plasma indices of sympathoadrenal (adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine) and vagal (pancreatic polypeptide) activity before, during and after submaximal and maximal exercise in healthy young subjects.

Parasympathetic Function in Haemodialysis Patients

Nephron, 2008
The long-term course of the parasympathetic neuropathy in patients with chronic renal failure maintained on haemodialysis was investigated. Well-established tests of parasympathetic function (deep breathing test, atropine test) were performed in 45 patients who had been dialysed for periods ranging from 1 to 12 years and in 34 normal subjects.

The ligament of Marshall as a parasympathetic conduit

American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 2007
The objective of the study was to investigate the morphology, distribution, and electrophysiological profile of the autonomic fibers that innervate the ligament of Marshall (LOM). Gross anatomical dissections were performed in 10 dogs. Sections of the left vagus nerve, left stellate ganglion, and the LOM were immunostained to identify adrenergic and ...

Acetylcholine Release at Parasympathetic Synapses

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1950
Summary. The submaxillary gland was perfused with eserinized plasma and the perfusate tested for acetylcholine on cat's blood pressure. Small amounts of acetylcholine could always be detected in the venous outflow; during stimulation of the chorda tympani there was an increase in acetylcholine content.

Parasympathetic activity in Friedreich's ataxia

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1996
We compared 19 patients with Friedreich's ataxia, a progressive hereditary neuromuscular disorder, with 19 healthy age-matched subjects. During nighttime, patients had shorter mean RR and decreased heart rate variability parameters related to parasympathetic activity than healthy subjects, whereas no difference occurred during daytime.
