Alectorius: a parasympathomimetic stone?
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 2017Abstract Lapidaries, or books on stones, formed a historical literary genre which compiled information on the nature and properties of various stones together with their therapeutic applications. One of the mythical stones described in these lapidaries is the Cock Stone or Alectorius.

Stimulation of Insulin Secretion by Parasympathomimetic Agents
Endocrinology, 1968Effects on insulin secretion of methacholine and bethanechol given systemically and infused into the pancreatic artery were studied in the anesthetized dog. An intramuscular injection of methacholine (0.2 mg/k) resulted in a striking elevation of plasma immunoreactive insulin (IRI) in both pancreatic vein and femoral artery.

From parasympathomimetics to parasympatholytics by homologous substitution

Uropharmacology: V. CHoline esters and other parasympathomimetic drugs
Urology, 1977Various parasympathomimetic drugs are discussed, including the choline esters, bethanechol, carbachol, methacholine chloride, and furtrethonium. Other cholinomimetic agents include muscarine, muscarone, arecholine, and pilocarpine. Anticholinesterase agents inhibit or inactivate acetylcholinesterase enzyme and thus result in a prolonged stimulation of ...

Indirect Parasympathomimetic Drugs
1977I shall give a short clinical survey about anticholinesterase drugs. They act by inhibition of cholinesterase. Through inhibition of this enzyme hydrolyzation of acetylcholine is prevented and all cholinergic effects are produced by sensitizing the receptor mechanism to parasympathetic stimulation.

Parasympathomimetic effects of fentanyl on the canine sinus node
Journal of the Autonomic Nervous System, 1984Abstract The bradycardia coincident with fentanyl administration has been reported to result from a centrally-mediated decrease in sympathetic tone, coupled with a centrally-mediated increase in vagal tone [2,3]. Reitan et al. [8] reported that about 90% of the bradycardic action of fentanyl resulted from an enhancement of vagal efferent traffic from

Cholinergic Drugs: Direct Parasympathomimetic Drugs
1977Miotic therapy is still one of the pillars of medical therapy in glaucoma. The drugs are known to all of you and are probably used by all of you. The new developments of miotic therapy are not in the drugs themselves but in the way of administration of the drug.
