Indirect Parasympathomimetic Drugs
1977I shall give a short clinical survey about anticholinesterase drugs. They act by inhibition of cholinesterase. Through inhibition of this enzyme hydrolyzation of acetylcholine is prevented and all cholinergic effects are produced by sensitizing the receptor mechanism to parasympathetic stimulation.

Parasympathomimetic drugs for the treatment of salivary gland dysfunction due to radiotherapy
2007Salivary gland dysfunction is a predictable side effect of radiotherapy to the head and neck region. Pilocarpine hydrochloride (a choline ester) is licensed in many countries for the treatment of radiation-induced salivary gland dysfunction. Other parasympathomimetics have also been used 'off licence' in the treatment of this condition. To determine the

Parasympathomimetic effects of mono sodium glutamate.
Indian journal of physiology and pharmacology, 1977The effects of Mono sodium glutamate on smooth muscles were studied using the guinea-pig isolated ileum. Mono sodium glutamate produced spasmogenic effect. Atropine blocked the contractile response elicited by Mono sodium glutamate whereas mepyramine and hexamethonium failed to do so.

The Actions and Uses of Parasympathomimetic Drugs in Glaucoma
1977The parasympathetic nervous system and its manipulation by drugs have been associated now for a century, since the introduction of pilocarpine in 1876 by Weber. This drug, a directly-acting parasympathomimetic, has, despite its many drawbacks, maintained its front-line position in the ophthalmologist’s armamentarium.

Cholinergic Drugs: Direct Parasympathomimetic Drugs
1977Miotic therapy is still one of the pillars of medical therapy in glaucoma. The drugs are known to all of you and are probably used by all of you. The new developments of miotic therapy are not in the drugs themselves but in the way of administration of the drug.
