Species Diversity and Geographical Distribution of Poultry Ascaridids: A Scoping Review. [PDF]
Poultry nematodes, particularly Ascaridid species, significantly affect avian health and productivity and are widely distributed globally. Yet despite over 80% of poultry in developing countries being raised under extensive rearing systems, knowledge on infection risks posed by different poultry nematodes remains limited.

Passage of Angiostrongylus cantonensis through the trophic web: an experimental study on reptiles. [PDF]
The rat lungworm Angiostrongylus cantonensis is a zoonotic metastrongyloid nematode, currently considered an emerging pathogen approaching Europe. In tropics and subtropics, it is an important food-borne neurotropic parasite of medical and veterinary ...

The Role of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in the Life Cycle of Toxocara spp.
The present study aimed to experimentally assess Nile tilapia as potential paratenic host of Toxocara spp. A total of 15 Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) were fed with 300 embryonated Toxocara canis eggs by oral gavage, while five others of the ...

Earthworms as Paratenic Hosts of Toxoplasmosis in Eastern Barred Bandicoots in Tasmania [PDF]
An experimental feeding study was designed to assess the role of earthworms in the transmission of Toxoplasma gondii infection to eastern barred bandicoots (Perameles gunnii). Six animals with no agglutinating antibodies to T. gondii were fed artificially cultured earthworms that had been maintained in autoclaved nutrient-enriched soil.

ELEVATED TRANS-MAMMARY TRANSMISSION OF Toxocara canis LARVAE IN BALB/c MICE
Toxocariasis is a widespread zoonosis and is considered an important worldwide public health problem. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of trans-mammary Toxocara canis infection in newborn

Corynosomaacanthocephalans in their paratenic fish hosts in the northern Baltic Sea [PDF]
Cystacanth stages of three Corynosoma (Acanthocephala) species, C. strumosum and C. semerme, and a new species in the Bothnian Bay, C. magdaleni, were studied in the fourhorn sculpin (Myoxocephalus quadricornis) in 1996-1997. The length of the trunk and proboscis differentiated the three species in the fish.

Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati are globally occurring zoonotic roundworms of dogs and cats. Migration and persistence of Toxocara larvae in the central nervous system of paratenic hosts including humans may cause clinical signs of neurotoxocarosis (NT).

Background Neurotoxocarosis (NT) is induced by larvae of the dog or cat roundworm (Toxocara canis or T. cati) migrating and persisting in the central nervous system of paratenic hosts, including humans, and may be accompanied by severe neurological ...
