Differentiating Atypical Parathyroid Neoplasm from Parathyroid Cancer

Annals of Surgical Oncology, 2016
The differentiation of benign parathyroid gland atypia and true parathyroid carcinoma (PC) can be challenging. In some instances, patients are classified as having 'atypical parathyroid neoplasms' (APNs), explicitly acknowledging that the distinction between benign and malignant disease appears impossible to determine.

Clinical course of atypical parathyroid neoplasm with soft tissue extension

Journal of Surgical Oncology
AbstractBackground and ObjectivesThe American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) TNM staging system defines atypical parathyroid neoplasia (APN) as tumor in situ (Tis) and reserves the definition of parathyroid carcinoma (PC) to parathyroid tumor with invasion into surrounding structures.

ONCOCYTIC INTRATHYROID PARATHYROID ADENOMA MASQUERADING AS HURTHLE CELL NEOPLASM: FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION CYTOLOGY OF TWO CASES

International journal of scientific research, 2021
Ectopic parathyroid adenomas in thyroid tissue are uncommon (0.7 - 6%), and their oncocytic variants are exceedingly rare. We report two cases of intrathyroid parathyroid adenoma which were diagnosed as Hurthle cell adenoma on cytology.

Spectrum of mitochondrial genomic variation in parathyroid neoplasms

Endocrine, 2021
Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variations have been implicated in various cancer types. Several attempts have been made in benign parathyroid adenoma (PA); however, mtDNA variants and copy number alterations have not been investigated in parathyroid carcinoma (PC).

Parathyroid Neuroendocrine Neoplasms

2020
The parathyroid glands are the site of common benign neuroendocrine tumors, including adenomas and lipoadenomas. Metastatic disease is very rare, and local growth does not usually have significant sequelae; even large non-metastatic tumors are easily resected.

[Clinical analysis of parathyroid neoplasms].

Zhonghua er bi yan hou tou jing wai ke za zhi = Chinese journal of otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery, 2010

Epigenetic processes in sporadic parathyroid neoplasms

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2018
Parathyroid tumors (PTs) are highly variable in their genetic background. Increasing evidence demonstrates that endocrine diseases can be caused by epigenetic alterations. The present review is focused on epigenetic aberrations related to PTs. DNA methylation, posttranslational histone modification, and noncoding RNAs are epigenetic mechanisms involved

Follicular Neoplasm of Thyroid Revisited: Current Differential Diagnosis and the Impact of Molecular Testing

Advances in Anatomic Pathology, 2022
The diagnosis of “follicular neoplasm” (FN) in thyroid cytopathology has a long history that originated not long after the practice of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of thyroid nodules.
