Treatment of Parathyroid Cancer: Current Status and Near-Term Prospects

Annals of the Russian academy of medical sciences, 2022
Parathyroid cancer (PС) is a rare malignant neoplasm of the endocrine system, characterized by a severe course due to the development of life-threatening hypercalcemia. Despite a relatively high survival rate, recurrence occurs about half the time.

[Diagnosis and surgical treatment of parathyroid neoplasms].

Zhonghua yi xue za zhi, 2013
To explore the clinical features, diagnosis and surgical treatment of parathyroid neoplasms. From January 2003 to December 2011, a total of 51 patients were recruited. Their clinical data, presentations, examinations and surgical approaches were analyzed retrospectively.Among them, there were parathyroid adenoma (n = 32), parathyroid cysts (n = 18) and ...

Thyroid and Parathyroid Neoplasms

2020
The thyroid and adjacent parathyroid glands demonstrate a variety of benign and malignant pathology, with nodular thyroid disease being the most common pathology encountered in most routine head and neck imaging practice. A variety of thyroid cancers exist, and imaging strategy for staging, surveillance and follow-up depend upon the cancer type.

EZH2 and ZFX oncogenes in malignant behaviour of parathyroid neoplasms

Endocrine, 2016
Several studies reported somatic mutations of many genes (MEN1, CTNNB1, CDKIs and others) in parathyroid adenoma, although with different prevalence. Recently, activating mutations of the EZH2 and ZFX oncogenes were identified in benign parathyroid adenoma by whole exome sequencing. The same mutations had been found in blood and ovary malignant tumours.

Analysis of Parathyroid Neoplasms by Interphase Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization

The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2004
Recent studies have indicated that numerical chromosomal abnormalities, including changes in cyclin D1 and p53, may be involved in parathyroid tumorigenesis. We analyzed a series of parathyroid neoplasms with DNA fluorescent probes to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic utility of numerical abnormalities of chromosomes 1, 6, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, and ...

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition in parathyroid neoplasms

2009
Epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMT) are essential for normal embryonic development and for progression of non-invasive tumor cells into metastatic carcinomas. During embryogenesis, the parathyroid glands develop from pharyngeal pouches and migrate to their final destinations, densely enclosed by mesenchymal neural crest cells.

Thyroid and Parathyroid Neoplasms

2011
This chapter offers an overview of the epidemiology and aetiology, clinical and histological characteristics and classification, and staging of thyroid and parathyroid neoplasms before providing a more focused and illustrated description of the imaging findings. The indications and the role of ultrasound, ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration, cross-

Thyroid and Parathyroid Neoplasms

2006
X-rays of the neck, the chest or barium swallows can give hints mainly regarding thyroid disease, such as narrowing of tracheal, hypopharyngeal or oesophageal lumen, their shifting away from the midline, and coarse calcifications (Fig. 14.1). Their importance has remarkably decreased since the development and refinement of modern cross-sectional ...
