Parental body composition and infant energy expenditure

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995
It has been suggested that infants born to overweight parents are at risk of becoming overweight because of reduced total energy expenditure (TEE). We therefore examined the relationship between infant TEE and parental nutritional status as assessed by body mass index (BMI) in a large sample of healthy infants.

Children's Bodies, Parents' Choices

Hastings Center Report, 2009
Last October, the state of Queensland in Australia made it illegal for teenagers under eighteen to have cosmetic surgery. Other governments may soon follow. Germany is drafting a similar law, and advocates in the Netherlands are calling for one there. The trend reflects the tremendous growth in the number of minors having these procedures--and in the ...

Multiple parent bodies of ordinary chondrites

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1984
Thermal histories of chondrite parent bodies are calculated from an initial state with material in a powder-like form, taking into account the effect of consolidation state on thermal conductivity. The very low thermal conductivity of the starting materials makes it possible for a small body with a radius of less than 100 km to be heated by several ...

Parental Perception of Preschool Child Body Weight

Organic thermometry for chondritic parent bodies

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2008
Abstract A unique spectroscopic feature has been identified in a study of twenty-five different samples of meteoritic insoluble organic matter (IOM) spanning multiple chemical classes, groups, and petrologic types, using carbon X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) spectroscopy.

Body Perception and Organ Donation: Bereaved Parents’ Perspectives

Qualitative Health Research, 2019
The view of the body in sociological, psychological, and gender studies may be broadly summarized to three metaphors: (a) the body as a machine, (b) the body as Self, and (c) the body as sacred and sanctified entity. Each of these philosophical views has an impact on organ donation.
