Degassing of meteorite parent bodies

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1984
Gas permeability of three chondrites was measured. A typical time for degassing of a 100‐km‐radius parent body was calculated based on these permeability values. It was found that an ordinary chondrite parent body would act as an open system during the metamorphic period (100 m.y.), while an enstatite chondrite parent body would act as a closed system.

Parental body composition and infant energy expenditure

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995
It has been suggested that infants born to overweight parents are at risk of becoming overweight because of reduced total energy expenditure (TEE). We therefore examined the relationship between infant TEE and parental nutritional status as assessed by body mass index (BMI) in a large sample of healthy infants.

Children's Bodies, Parents' Choices

Hastings Center Report, 2009
Last October, the state of Queensland in Australia made it illegal for teenagers under eighteen to have cosmetic surgery. Other governments may soon follow. Germany is drafting a similar law, and advocates in the Netherlands are calling for one there. The trend reflects the tremendous growth in the number of minors having these procedures--and in the ...

Multiple parent bodies of ordinary chondrites

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1984
Thermal histories of chondrite parent bodies are calculated from an initial state with material in a powder-like form, taking into account the effect of consolidation state on thermal conductivity. The very low thermal conductivity of the starting materials makes it possible for a small body with a radius of less than 100 km to be heated by several ...

Parental Perception of Preschool Child Body Weight

Journal of Pediatric Nursing, 2011
Obesity in preschoolers has risen dramatically in the last decade. Although studies have demonstrated that parents of preschoolers have incorrect perceptions of their child's body weight, little is known about the factors that may be associated with these perceptions.

Organic thermometry for chondritic parent bodies

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2008
Abstract A unique spectroscopic feature has been identified in a study of twenty-five different samples of meteoritic insoluble organic matter (IOM) spanning multiple chemical classes, groups, and petrologic types, using carbon X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) spectroscopy.

Parental Perspectives on Their Child’s Body Image

Childhood Obesity
Poor body image is a prominent issue affecting youth. In this nationally representative online survey, we explored parents' concerns about their child's appearance, as well as their perceptions of their child's body image concerns and related behaviors and interactions with others.

Hf–W chronology of the eucrite parent body

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2015
Abstract The 182 Hf– 182 W systematics of 12 whole-rock eucrites, including basaltic and cumulate samples, have been investigated. The Hf–W isotope systematics of both basaltic and cumulate eucrites are consistent with derivation from a single mantle source characterized by a strongly suprachondritic Hf/W ratio ( 180 Hf/ 184 W of ∼19).
