Distributed Computation of Pareto Sets

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2015
The needs of multidisciplinary engineering design have motivated the development of distributed solution approaches to computing efficient solutions to decomposable multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs). The decomposition is necessary due to the assumption that the overall MOP is not solvable since access to its solution space is subproblem ...

The Pareto Distribution

1990
Using certain data on personal income, V. Pareto (1897) plotted income on the abscissa and the number of people who received more than that on the ordinate of logarithmic paper and found a roughly linear relation. This Pareto distribution or ‘Pareto law’ may be written as $$x = a\,{y^{ - \alpha }}\,{\text{or}}\,\log \,x = a' - \alpha \,\log \,y$$

Bivariate distributions with pareto conditionals

Statistics & Probability Letters, 1987
For a fixed \(\alpha >0\), the totality of bivariate densities with all conditionals being of the Pareto (\(\alpha)\) form is identified. The resulting family is of the form \[ f(x,y)\propto [1+\lambda_ 1x+\lambda_ 2y+\phi \lambda_ 1\lambda_ 2xy]^{-(\alpha +1)} \] for suitable choices of \(\lambda_ 1\), \(\lambda_ 2\) and \(\phi\).

Pareto and Income Distribution

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2000
Internal parameters of Pareto's distribution of income have not been developed in depth. Here, its mathematical sense is analized; adimensional expressions of income probability are derived, as also the correlation between Pareto's coefficient and Gini's coefficient.

The Pareto Distribution as a Queue Service Discipline

Operations Research, 1968
A queuing system is described in which service times are conditioned upon a random parameter μ, such that the conditional service distribution is exponential and μ has a gamma density. It is shown that the resultant unconditional distribution of service times is Paretian.
