Quantifying Transmembrane Water Exchange by Diffusion NMR Methods: From Yeast Cells to Optic Nerve Ex Vivo. [PDF]

open access: yesNMR Biomed
A comparative analysis of the two most prevalent diffusion NMR methods for exchange measurements, CG‐PFG and FEXSY. Transmembrane water exchange is measured in yeast cells and porcine optic nerves, before and after fixation. Complementary Monte Carlo simulations are conducted.

Accelerating PREFUL MRI: Comparison of Registration Methods and Impact of Time Series Reduction [PDF]

open access: yesNMR Biomed
Retrospective shortening of the PREFUL MRI acquisition showed that most parameters remained strongly correlated (≥ 77%) and regionally concordant (overlap ≥ 79%) with the 55‐s ground truth down to 30 s in healthy volunteers and COPD, except for perfusion, which was more sensitive to truncation.

Computational performance of musculoskeletal simulation in OpenSim Moco using parallel computing

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering, Volume 39, Issue 12, December 2023., 2023
We aimed to investigate the computational speed‐up obtained via multicore parallel computing relative to solving problems serially (i.e., using a single core) in optimal control simulations of human movement in OpenSim Moco. Simulations were solved using up to 18 cores with a variety of temporal mesh interval densities and using two different initial ...

A high performance approach for solving the high voltage direct current ion flow field problem by tensor‐structured finite element method

open access: yesHigh Voltage, Volume 8, Issue 1, Page 128-137, February 2023., 2023
Abstract In order to achieve high performance for solving the ion flow field problem, an approach is proposed with the tensor‐structured finite element method (FEM) to accelerate the Newton iteration. The Poisson equation and the continuity equation are reformulated into the tensor expressions, respectively.

SubZero: A Sea Ice Model With an Explicit Representation of the Floe Life Cycle

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 14, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Sea ice dynamics exhibit granular behavior as individual floes and fracture networks become particularly evident at length scales O(10–100) km and smaller. However, climate models do not resolve floes and represent sea ice as a continuum, while existing floe‐scale sea ice models tend to oversimplify floes using discrete elements of predefined ...
