There are few reports of patients with parietal lobe epilepsy. One of the largest series, from the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI), reported that patients with epileptogenic areas in the parietal cortex behind the postcentral gyrus comprised 6% of patients with refractory focal epilepsy treated surgically at the MNI between 1929 and 1988.

CONNECTIONS OF THE PARIETAL LOBE [PDF]
Abstract The efferent connections of the posterior parietal cortex were studied in rhesus monkeys subjected to selective lesions of the superior and inferior parietal lobules, which correspond approximately to Brodmann's areas 5 and 7, respectively.

The parietal lobe and language
2018Although the parietal lobe was considered by many of the earliest investigators of disordered language to be a major component of the neural systems instantiating language, most views of the anatomic substrate of language emphasize the role of temporal and frontal lobes in language processing.

The mirror mechanism in the parietal lobe
2018The mirror mechanism is a basic mechanism that transforms sensory representations of others' actions into motor representations of the same actions in the brain of the observer. The mirror mechanism plays an important role in understanding actions of others.

Apraxia and the parietal lobes
Neuropsychologia, 2009The widely held belief in a central role of left parietal lesions for apraxia can be traced back to Liepmann's model of a posterior to anterior stream converting mental images of intended action into motor execution. Although this model has undergone significant changes, its modern descendants still attribute the parietal contribution to the existence ...

Motor functions of the parietal lobe
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 2005There is now general agreement that the posterior parietal cortex is part of the motor system. New data have confirmed its fundamental role in visuomotor transformations. Most interestingly, recent data showed that the inferior parietal lobule codes motor acts (such as grasping) in a specific way according to the action in which they are embedded. This

Microarchitecture and connectivity of the parietal lobe
2018This chapter summarizes current knowledge on the structural segregation of the parietal lobe based on cyto-, myelo-, and receptorarchitectonic studies, as well as the connectivity of this brain region with other cortical and subcortical structures.

A Case of Parietal Lobe Atrophy
British Journal of Psychiatry, 1986Bilateral parietal lobe atrophy was revealed by CT scan in a 48 year-old man, with a history of learning difficulties since childhood, encopretic up to the age of eight, and left-handedness. Nevertheless, he earned his living as a skilled potter, though unable to cope with the administration of the business.

To the Editor:— Regarding the monograph "The Parietal Lobe" by Macdonald Critchley (reviewed inThe Journal, Jan. 9, 1954), it should be pointed out that approval or disapproval of the work will depend on the point of view, of which there are at least two.

The parietal lobe and tool use
2018The ability to craft and use tools is a crucial skill of human beings, distinguishing humans from all other species. Humans show a unique capacity to create novel, technologically advanced devices and represent physical causality using tools. In the present chapter we review the effect of tool use in changing body-space multisensory integration and ...
