Abstract This chapter explores Blackfriars’ parochial identity as St. Anne’s Blackfriars. The parish became a stronghold of godly Protestantism in later sixteenth-century London, thanks to the efforts of the resident preachers Stephen Egerton and William Gouge, and their local lay supporters.
