Influence of Parity and Stage of Lactation on the Somatic Cell Count in Bacteriologically Negative Dairy Cows

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1997
This study examines the influence of parity, stage of lactation, and single isolations (i.e., the isolation of a microorganism that could not be reisolated in the same quarter in the next sampling) of staphylococci other than Staphylococcus aureus (coagulase-negative staphylococci), Corynebacterium bovis, or esculin-positive cocci other than ...

Beyond the Non‐Hermitian Skin Effect: Scaling‐Controlled Topology from Exceptional‐Bound Bands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We establish a novel mechanism for topological transitions in non‐Hermitian systems that are controlled by the system size. Based on a new paradigm known as exceptional‐bound (EB) band engineering, its mechanism hinges on the unique critical scaling behavior near an exceptional point, totally unrelated to the well‐known non‐Hermitian skin ...

Haemato-chemical and immune variations in Holstein cows at different stages of lactation, parity, and age

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2020
Physiological components are influenced by various factors. However, little is comprehensively understood about lactation, parity, and age-related blood profile changes in dairy cows.

On the influence of the source of porcine colostrum in the development of early immune ontogeny in piglets

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The effects on the ontogeny of serum cytokines and immune cells caused by feeding suckling piglets with sow/gilt colostrum and milk replacer was assessed in the present study.

The association between herd- and cow-level factors and somatic cell count of Irish dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
peer-reviewedSomatic cell count (SCC) is an indicator of both udder health and milk quality and is measured at an animal level through national milk recording schemes.

Trained Memory of Uterine Macrophages Improves Subsequent Pregnancy Outcomes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies that pregnancy imprints a durable, pregnancy‐specific form of trained immune memory in uterine macrophages, marked by the emergence of LILRB3+/PIR‐B+ cells that expand across gestations, acquire a tolerogenic and metabolically rewired phenotype, and actively protect against inflammatory pregnancy loss in mice.

Milk somatic cells, factors influencing their release, future prospects, and practical utility in dairy animals: An overview [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2018
Milk somatic cells (SCs) are a mixture of milk-producing cells and immune cells. These cells are secreted in milk during the normal course of milking and are used as an index for estimating mammary health and milk quality of dairy animals worldwide. Milk

Emergent localized states at the interface of a twofold $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric lattice

open access: yes, 2019
We consider the role of non-triviality resulting from a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian that conserves twofold PT-symmetry assembled by interconnections between a PT-symmetric lattice and its time reversal partner.

Conformal Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces: A Cylindrical Geometry Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Cylindrical reconfigurable intelligent surfaces are explored for low‐complexity beam steering using one‐bit meta‐atoms. A multi‐level modeling approach, including optimization‐based synthesis, demonstrates that even minimal hardware can support directive scattering.

Closing the Gap Between Short and Long XORs for Model Counting

open access: yes, 2016
Many recent algorithms for approximate model counting are based on a reduction to combinatorial searches over random subsets of the space defined by parity or XOR constraints.
