Evolutionary biology of lichen symbioses
Summary Lichens are the symbiotic outcomes of open, interspecies relationships, central to which are a fungus and a phototroph, typically an alga and/or cyanobacterium. The evolutionary processes that led to the global success of lichens are poorly understood.

An annotated checklist of 103 macrolichen species is provided based on identification of specimens collected from three different vegetation types within the Bolampatti II forest range, Western Ghats, India. Among them, the dominant order is Lecanorales with 47 species, while the dominant family is Parmeliaceae with 40 species.

Eighteen species of parmelioid lichens belonging to the genera Canomaculina, Parmelina, Parmelinella and Parmelinopsis are recognized in China's mainland. The new combination Canomaculina uhralucens is made and Parmelia kokiuensis is synonymized with Parmelinopsis minarum.
