Minimal incision in parotidectomy
International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2007Conservative parotidectomy has been for years an effective and well-established technique. Recently, aesthetic considerations have been reviewed. A minimal pre- and retroauricular incision is proposed that does not extend to the hair-bearing skin. This reduces the length of the scar and the extent of the dissection improving aesthetic results.

Parotidectomy—Anatomical considerations
Clinical Anatomy, 2011AbstractThe parotid glands are paired major salivary glands and are located in the preauricular region. Parotidectomy is a surgical procedure that entails removal of all or a portion of the parotid gland. The most common indications for this operative procedure are a neoplasm of the parotid gland or metastases to parotid lymph nodes.

Evaluation of Outcome of Parotidectomy [PDF]
The parotid tissue can give rise to a large variety of benign and malignant neoplasms. To evaluate the efficacy of fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and the outcome and complications of parotidectomy over a 15-year period. A retrospective review was performed in patients who underwent parotidectomy from January 1995 to July 2017.

Traumatic Partial Parotidectomy
The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1984A 16-year-old boy was assaulted with a broken bottle, which inflicted a deep right-sided cervicofacial injury. Exploration, however, revealed a split parotid gland along its plane of cleavage preserving the facial nerve and major cervical blood vessels with a unique traumatic dissection simulating surgical suprafacial parotidectomy.

Parotidectomy in the treatment of chronic sialadenitis
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1961Abstract A series of twenty-nine cases is presented in which thirty parotidectomies were performed for recurrent chronic sialadenitis. The results during the follow-up period have been excellent, except in one case in which subtotal parotidectomy had been performed and a recurrence developed five months later.

Encouraged by the success of outpatient thyroid surgery, we have performed outpatient parotidectomy in more than 56 selected patients during the past 5 years. As a result of the success of the procedure and the enthusiastic patient response, the proportion of parotid operations performed on an inpatient basis has declined in the latter part of the ...

Facial Nerve in Parotidectomies
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1965IN the 18th and 19th centuries, the surgeon tackling a tumor in the parotid region did not particularly concern himself about the facial nerve. For him, the main problem was to stop the bleeding from the big vessels in the region. The coarse methods of blood-staunching which he employed, usually cauterization, were undoubtedly injurious to the facial ...

Stensen's Duct: Key to Parotidectomy
Archives of Surgery, 1957Surgery of the parotid gland demands an exacting knowledge of the anatomy of the facial nerve. Its relation to the parotid has only recently been presented by Bailey (1941),1McCormack (1947),2and Davis (1956).3Most surgeons encounter the problem of parotidectomy infrequently.
