Surgical parotitis

The Laryngoscope, 1972
AbstractSurgical parotitis is an acute inflammation of the parotid gland which occurs in the postoperative period and carries a high mortality. The most commonly accepted mechanism is penicillin resistant staphylococci ascending through Stensen's duct. Tuberculous parotitis

British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2002

Neonatal parotitis

The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2001
Neonatal parotitis is a rare condition. Infection of the parotid glad is more common than that of the submandibular glad. Dehydration is the most important predisposing factor for this. Most common organism responsible for this condition is Staphylococcus aureus. Untreated condition can lead to various complications.

Nosocomial Parotitis

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1976
A total of 22 cases of acute suppurative parotitis are reviewed. The causative factors were severe primary disease with salivary gland hyposecretion related to age (77 years), dehydration, oral inactivity and drugs (19 patients). The oral hygiene was poor and permitted ascending canalicular invasion of resistant staphylococci.

Postoperative suppurative parotitis

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1964
The incidence of postoperative suppurative parotitis, thought a few years ago to be decreasing, may be increasing. When it occurs, it continues to be a serious complication with a high mortality rate that is shared between it and the primary disease. Recent reviews indicate a mortality rate of approximately 20% and an incidence rate of one in every 1 ...

Acute suppurative parotitis

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1965
Abstract The etiology and therapy of modern staphylococcal parotitis have been presented. When antibiotic therapy, hydration, and local hygiene fail to produce adequate relief, carly surgical decompression of the gland is recommended.

Parotitis

Postgraduate Medicine, 1982
Although mumps virus is the most common and, therefore, best known cause of parotitis, other causes are not infrequent and need to be distinguished from mumps. Knowledge of the various clinical presentations of parotitis and judicious use of a few ancillary tests will facilitate differential diagnosis.

Diffuse tuberculous parotitis

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1992
AbstractParenchymatous parotid tuberculosis diffusely affecting the entire gland is very rare. We present a case, associated with a primary pulmonary focus, that was confirmed after positive identification of alcohol and acid-fast bacilli in gastric washings. Both sites of infection resolved with quadruple anti-tuberculous chemotherapy.
