An approach to therapy for paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1988
A variety of options are available for managing recurrent paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. These options include empirical drug therapy on a trial and error basis, drug therapy based on the results of electrophysiologic testing and nonpharmacologic treatment including operative therapy, catheter ablation and antitachycardia devices.

Swallowing-induced paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia

Journal of Electrocardiology, 1980
This report describes an unusual case of swallowing-induced paroxysmal supraventricular (atrial or junctional) tachycardia in a young man without evidence of organic cardiac or esophageal disease. The arrhythmia was apparently potentiated by excessive coffee ingestion.

Treating Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1982
To the Editor. —I read with interest the article by Mathew entitled "Diving Reflex: Another Method of Treating Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia" in the JanuaryArchives(1981;141:22-23). Report of a Case. —While an internal medicine resident in training, I treated a 54-year-old man who was initially seen at an emergency room with a paroxysmal ...

Neosynephrine in treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia

American Heart Journal, 1949
Abstract Neosynephrine restores the normal sinus rhythm within thirty-five to seventy seconds after rapid intravenous injection in most cases of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. The reversion of the supraventricular tachycardia is attributable to reflex cardiac inhibition elicited by the rapid rise in pressure in the carotid sinuses and ...

Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia in Pediatrics

1987
For the purpose of this chapter, we will define paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) as an abnormally fast rate of sudden onset and termination originating in the atria or the AV junction. This definition also includes tachycardia with participation of these structures as part of a re-entrant pathway.

Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia: A Century of Progress

Heart, Lung and Circulation, 2007
This article reviews progress in the understanding of AV junctional reentrant tachycardia and accessory pathway-mediated tachycardia in the twentieth century and in the early part of the twenty-first century. Emphasis is placed on the contributions of John Uther and the department he founded at Westmead Hospital.
