Perspectives on the Current and Future State of Artificial Intelligence in Medical Genetics

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming numerous aspects of daily life, including clinical practice and biomedical research. In light of this rapid transformation, and in the context of medical genetics, we assembled a group of leaders in the field to respond to the question about how AI is affecting, and especially how AI will ...

Looking forwards and backwards: The real-time processing of Strong and Weak Crossover

open access: yesGlossa, 2017
We investigated the processing of pronouns in Strong and Weak Crossover constructions as a means of probing the extent to which the incremental parser can use syntactic information to guide antecedent retrieval.

Skeletons in the parser [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 20th international conference on Computational Linguistics - COLING '04, 2004
We describe a simple approach for integrating shallow and deep parsing. We use phrase structure bracketing obtained from the Collins parser as filters to guide deep parsing. Our experiments demonstrate that our technique yields substantial gains in speed along with modest improvements in accuracy.

A Stochastic Parts Program and Noun Phrase Parser for Unrestricted Text

open access: yesApplied Natural Language Processing Conference, 1988
A program that tags each word in an input sentence with the most likely part of speech has been written. The program uses a linear-time dynamic programming algorithm to find an assignment of parts of speech to words that optimizes the product of (a ...

Depression Symptom Trajectories in Mothers With the FMR1 Premutation Vary by CGG Repeat Length: A Longitudinal Study of 73 Women Spanning 20–75 Years of Age

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Women with the FMR1 premutation (FXpm) are at heightened genetic vulnerability for depression, with risk compounded by the stressors of parenting a disabled child. Although risk factors persist as FXpm women age, depression in FXpm mothers during midlife and old age is poorly characterized. This study used an accelerated longitudinal design to

Unsupervised Discourse Constituency Parsing Using Viterbi EM

open access: yesTransactions of the Association for Computational Linguistics, 2020
In this paper, we introduce an unsupervised discourse constituency parsing algorithm. We use Viterbi EM with a margin-based criterion to train a span-based discourse parser in an unsupervised manner.

Detecting New Lesions Using a Large Language Model: Applications in Real‐World Multiple Sclerosis Datasets

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Neuroimaging is routinely utilized to identify new inflammatory activity in multiple sclerosis (MS). A large language model to classify narrative magnetic resonance imaging reports in the electronic health record (EHR) as discrete data could provide significant benefits for MS research. The objectives of the current study were to develop such

A Refined End-to-End Discourse Parser

open access: yesConference on Computational Natural Language Learning, 2015
The CoNLL-2015 shared task focuses on shallow discourse parsing, which takes a piece of newswire text as input and returns the discourse relations in a PDTB style. In this paper, we describe our discourse parser that participated in the shared task.
