Connectivity between countries established by landbirds and raptors migrating along the African–Eurasian flyway

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 37, Issue 1, February 2023., 2023
Abstract The conservation of long‐distance migratory birds requires coordination between the multiple countries connected by the movements of these species. The recent expansion of tracking studies is shedding new light on these movements, but much of this information is fragmented and inaccessible to conservation practitioners and policy makers.

Evolution of fruit and seed traits during almond naturalization

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 110, Issue 3, Page 686-699, March 2022., 2022
Almond naturalization is consistent with strong directional selection on fruits and seeds, leading to smaller and more toxic seeds encased in harder endocarps. Accordingly, we propose that feralization of this crop is, at least to some degree, driven by adaptive evolution of dispersal and recruitment traits.

Litter‐trapping tank bromeliads in five different forests: Carbon and nutrient pools and fluxes

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 54, Issue 1, Page 170-180, January 2022., 2022
Bromeliads are the most abundant litter‐trapping plants in Neotropical forest canopies. We analyzed the carbon and nutrient pools and fluxes in tank bromeliads in different forests along an elevation gradient. Only a small percentage of the annual litterfall (<3%) is trapped by tank bromeliads.

Variation in biomass allocation and root functional parameters in response to fire history in Brazilian savannas

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 109, Issue 12, Page 4143-4157, December 2021., 2021
Fire stimulated the increase of absorptive root biomass in the upper soil layer in response to the higher demand for below‐ground resources, but did not promote modification of morphological root parameters. Differences in morphological root parameters reflected variation in soil properties, especially soil P, as well as differences in graminoid ...

Near‐term ecological forecasting for dynamic aeroconservation of migratory birds

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 35, Issue 6, Page 1777-1786, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Near‐term ecological forecasting has the potential to mitigate negative impacts of human modifications on wildlife by directing efficient action through relevant and timely predictions. We used the U.S. avian migration system to highlight ecological forecasting applications for aeroconservation.

Do changes in air transportation affect productivity? A cross‐country panel approach

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, Volume 12, Issue 3, Page 493-505, June 2020., 2020
This paper quantifies the economic impact of air transportation worldwide using two panel data methods to assess the effect of air cargo and air passenger volumes on GDP per employee (aggregate labour productivity). Fixed effects methods and instrumental variables allow us to tackle endogeneity concerns and simultaneity biases.

Information Disclosure by the European Union as a Tool to Improve Implementation? A Comparative Analysis of the Perception of Domestic Regulators

open access: yesEuropean Policy Analysis, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 266-284, Autumn 2019., 2019
The implementation of European Union law is not without problems, and there are many potential solutions to address this situation. This article analyzes the impact of information disclosure by the European Union (EU) on the application of EU policy in the member states according to domestic regulators.
