This chapter considers the decline of Greek rule in Bactria under the mounting weight of external and internal pressures. Antiochus III successfully subdued Bactria as another subordinate allied kingdom; however, the devastation of nomadic incursions and growing Parthian aggression further undermined the power and authority of the Bactrian kings.

This article considers the ancient and modem evidence for reconstructing the life of Thea Musa, Roman Queen of Parthia. This singular woman rose to prominence in Parthia just prior to the turn of the millennium, and is identified as a gift of Augustus himself to King Phraates IV. Through this gift Augustus sought to undermine Parthian succession.
