Partially coherent vectorial nonparaxial beams

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2004
Generalized vectorial Rayleigh-Sommerfeld diffraction integrals are developed for the cross-spectral-density matrices of spatially partially coherent beams. Using the Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) beam as an example, we derive the expressions for the propagation of cross-spectral-density matrices and intensity of partially coherent vectorial nonparaxial ...

Partially Coherent Receivers

1986
As was made clear in the previous chapter on synchronization, an ideal coherent detector with no carrier phase error does not exist in practice. The best we can hope for is a phase error that constantly fluctuates around the mean value zero. In this chapter we will give a statistical description of the steady state phase error and study both optimum ...

Symmetries in Coherent and Partially Coherent Fields

Optica Acta: International Journal of Optics, 1983
The operator form of the solution for the wave equation is employed to indicate the symmetry properties of the diffracted field under coherent and partially coherent illumination. Such symmetries are of interest in holography, phase conjugation, and for automatic focusing.

Azimuthal polarization and partial coherence

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2003
Partially coherent fields with the electric field parallel to the azimuthal coordinate are analyzed by use of the exact angular spectrum representation. The known results for fully coherent fields are used to find the permitted forms of azimuthally polarized, partially coherent fields.

Coherence requirement for partially coherent correlation detection

Applied Physics B Photophysics and Laser Chemistry, 1983
The coherence requirement for correlation detection is determined using the theory of partially coherent light. It is shown that the requirement for temporal coherence strongly dependes on the spatial frequency and the spatial extension of the target (i.e., space bandwidth product).

Paley–Wiener partially coherent sources

Optics Letters
Starting from the extension to complex arguments of the ordinary Fourier transform (FT) (due to Paley and Wiener) and from results concerning reproducing kernels in Hilbert spaces, we define a new, to the best of our knowledge, class of partially coherent planar sources presenting a structured degree of coherence.

Partially Coherent Beams

2009
Overview: In this chapter we study the effects of a spatially partially coherent beam. Several investigations of the properties of such beams have led to the conclusion that the use of a diffuser at the exit aperture of a coherent laser can produce reduced scintillations at the receiver under the proper conditions.

Partial Coherence Simulation

2011
Except for a brief foray into incoherent imaging in Chapter 7, we have been considering coherent light. Coherence refers to the amount of correlation in the optical field at separate times or separate points within a beam of light. High coherence leads to stationary interference effects such as the "fringing" and "ringing" structures that appeared in ...

Coherent-mode representation of partially coherent imaging

Frontiers in Optics 2004/Laser Science XXII/Diffractive Optics and Micro-Optics/Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2004
The process of image formation in optical system with partially coherent illumination is represented as a superposition of completely coherent modal images. Two modal representations of a partially coherent imaging system are given. The basic concepts are illustrated by en example of calculating the image intensity distribution.
