Partial discharge. IX. PD in gas-insulated substations-fundamental considerations
IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1991For pt.VIII see ibid., vol.7, no.5, p.9 et seq. (1991). The physical aspects of partial discharge (PD) in SF/sub 6/ gas-insulated substations (GIS) are reviewed. The orientation is toward present and developing techniques for evaluating defects in solid and gaseous insulation systems on the basis of PD measurement.

The correlation between partial discharges (PD) and gassing in insulating liquids
10th International Conference on Conduction and Breakdown in Dielectric Liquids, 2002The authors report on investigations performed to determine the relationship between PD parameters and the dissolved gas generated by partial discharges in mineral-based oil. The PD activity of mineral-based oil is shown to depend upon many parameters, including the influence of the standing time between the filling of the test vessel and the switching

Partial discharges in HV machines; initial considerations for a PD specification
IEE Proceedings A Science, Measurement and Technology, 1993Partial discharge (PD) specifications exist for all types of electrical equipment except motors and generators. Whereas specifications essentially require that the equipment is discharge-free the stator conductor bar insulation of the motors and generators under consideration is micaceous and has excellent PD resistance.

Partial discharge (PD) measuring techniques
15th IET International School on High Voltage Engineering and Testing 2008, 2008The physical background of partial discharges will be explained on simple models. The requirements on the complete partial discharge measuring systems including the calibration and evaluation of the measuring results will be discussed and examples of partial discharge measurements on transformers in the laboratory and on site will be presented. Finally

Partial discharge. III. Cavity-induced PD in solid dielectrics
IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1990For pt.II see ibid., vol.6, no.5, p.35 et seq. (1990). The question of how to relate the magnitude of the measured, effective, partial discharge (PD) to the size, shape, and position of the cavity within a solid dielectric system is addressed. The causes of cavities are examined, and a brief review of gas breakdown is given. It is then shown that for a

Partial discharge. IV. Commercial PD testing
IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1991For pt.III see ibid., vol.6, no.6, p.11 et seq. (1990). Commercially available partial discharge (PD) detectors are described, along with their important characteristics. The primary characteristics that detectors have in common and that are used as a basis for classification are the number of inputs used, the bandwidth of the detector, and the method ...

Partial discharge. X. PD in gas-insulated substations-measurement and practical considerations
IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1992For pt.IX see ibid., vol.7, no.6, p.5 et seq. (1991). An overview of engineering practice related to partial discharge (PD) measurements in gas-insulated substations (GISs) is provided. The following questions are addressed: why measure PD in GIS?; in which phases of the life cycle should PD be measured?; what PD measurements are presently available ...

Development of automatic identification method for GIS PD (Partial Discharge) defects diagnosis
2007 IEEE Lausanne Power Tech, 2007In this paper, an overview of a new GIS (gas insulated switchgear) PD (partial discharge) diagnostic algorithm for both single-defects and multi-defects in HiPDS-G (Hyundai intelligent preventive diagnostic system for GIS) developed by HHI(Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd) is given.

Calibrating the UHF technique of partial discharge detection using a PD simulator
IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 1995The paper describes a technique for simulating the presence of partial discharges in gas-insulated substation (GIS) equipment. The technique employs a pulse generator to inject current pulses through a suitable protrusion. The current pulses have similar temporal characteristics to those produced by an actual discharge event, with the added advantage ...
