This study found that preoperative skeletal muscle mass (measured by LSMI) strongly predicts long‐term dietary outcomes after complex hypopharyngeal cancer reconstruction. An LSMI cutoff value of 42.82 was established, revealing that patients with low muscle mass had a significantly 10‐fold higher risk of requiring a restricted or texture‐modified diet

Patients with long‐term tracheostomy dependence exhibited the poorest prognosis and the highest recurrence rates. Emergency tracheostomy was identified as a strong predictor of long‐term dependence. Upfront surgery may be more appropriate for patients with impaired baseline laryngeal function.
