A Partial Likelihood Estimator of Vaccine Efficacy [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian & New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 2000
A partial likelihood method is proposed for estimating vaccine efficacy for a general epidemic model. In contrast to the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) which requires complete observation of the epidemic, the suggested method only requires information on the sequence in which individuals are infected and not the exact infection times.

ASYMPTOTIC LIKELIHOOD APPROXIMATIONS USING A PARTIAL LAPLACE APPROXIMATION [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian & New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 2006
SummaryElimination of a nuisance variable is often non‐trivial and may involve the evaluation of an intractable integral. One approach to evaluate these integrals is to use the Laplace approximation. This paper concentrates on a new approximation, called the partial Laplace approximation, that is useful when the integrand can be partitioned into two ...

Partial Partial Likelihood

Communications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 2008
The maximum likelihood and maximum partial likelihood approaches to the proportional hazards model are unified. The purpose is to give a general approach to the analysis of the proportional hazards model, whether the baseline distribution is absolutely continuous, discrete, or a mixture.

Stratified partial likelihood estimation

Journal of Econometrics, 1999
When multiple durations are generated by a single unit, they may be related in a way that is not fully captured by the regressors. The omitted unit-specific variables might vary over the durations. They might also be correlated with the variables in the regression component.

Partial likelihood for signal processing

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2003
We present partial likelihood (PL) as an effective means for developing nonlinear techniques for signal processing. Posing signal processing problems in a likelihood setting provides a number of advantages, such as allowing the use of powerful tools in statistics and easy incorporation of model order/complexity selection into the problem by use of ...

A geometric optimally of Cox's partial likelihood

Canadian Journal of Statistics, 1999
AbstractThe paper proves geometric optimality of Cox's partial likelihood score functions via estimating functions. As an illustration, Cox's proportional‐hazards model is considered.Les auteurs démontrent l'optimalité gǵométrique des fonctions scores de vraisemblance partielle de Cox au moyen des fonctions d'estimation.
