Laparoscopic Partial Splenectomy
2021Spleen is a critical immune organ with anti-infection and immune functions. Overwhelming post-splenectomy infection (OPSI) is a deadly infection due to weakened immunity after splenectomy, and the pathogenic bacteria mainly include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae type B, and Neisseria meningitidis.

Laparoscopic partial splenectomy
Surgical Endoscopy, 2006The immunologic function of the spleen and its important role in immune defense has led to splenic-preserving surgery. This study aimed to evaluate whether laparoscopic partial splenectomy is safe.Data on consecutive patients presenting with localized benign or malignant disease of the spleen were included in a prospective database.

Laparoscopic Partial Splenectomy
Journal of the American College of Surgeons, 2007p o w ( b t s I P a o p w T b s w w t F ntraparenchymal lesions in the spleen are rare entities and re based mainly on parasitic and nonparasitic cysts. Alhough parasitic cysts are generally common and caused by chinococcus (hydatide cysts) in almost two-thirds of cases, onparasitic cysts are found predominantly in Central Euope and North America ...

Elective partial splenectomy in childhood
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1998The indications and results of elective partial splenectomy in children remain uncertain. The aim of this study was to determine (1) the indications for elective partial splenectomy (EPS), (2) the extent of splenic resection, and (3) the complications of EPS.Patients who underwent EPS from three centers over a 10-year period (1986 through 1996) were ...

Partial Splenectomy for Hereditary Spherocytosis
Pediatric Clinics of North America, 2008The significant risks associated with total splenectomy have led to interest in the use of partial splenectomy as an alternative surgical therapy for children who have congenital hemolytic anemia. Partial splenectomy is designed to remove enough spleen to gain desired hematologic outcomes while preserving splenic immune function.

Technique for Laparoscopic Partial Splenectomy
Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques, 2000Splenic preservation and conservative management are now accepted norms when dealing with splenic pathologic conditions. This case report describes the technique of laparoscopic partial splenectomy for an undiagnosed splenic lesion. A thorough understanding of splenic anatomy permits laparoscopic partial splenectomy with the resultant benefits ...

Partial splenectomy in Gaucher's disease
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1986In 11 children with hypersplenism due to Gaucher's disease, partial splenectomy was planned with the aim to prevent the development of postsplenectomy sepsis and also to slow the advance of the disease in the rest of the reticuloendothelial system by permitting continuing accumulation of the beta-glucocerebroside in the remaining splenic tissue.

Robot‐assisted partial and total splenectomy
The International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery, 2011AbstractBackgroundThe interest of robotics in performing partial and total splenectomy is poorly reported so far. We report herein our experience.MethodsFrom November 2001 to November 2009, 24 consecutive robotic splenectomies were performed by the same surgeon. All data were prospectively collected and reviewed retrospectively.ResultsTwelve men and 12

Partial splenectomy for symptomatic splenic hamartoma
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1990Lower pole splenectomy with preservation of residual splenic function was successfully performed in a 3-year-old boy with a symptomatic splenic hamartoma. Following resection, several of the patient's constitutional symptoms resolved. This is the first reported case of a splenic hamartoma treated by partial splenectomy.
