Nasal Air-Conditioning after Partial Turbinectomy: Myths versus Facts

American Journal of Rhinology & Allergy, 2015
Background Turbinectomy, although a common procedure, is often accused of having a negative impact in all nasal functions. This study is the first in vivo study that evaluates objectively the effect of partial turbinectomy on nasal air-conditioning capacity.

Olfactory Changes at Threshold and Suprathreshold Levels following Septoplasty with Partial Inferior Turbinectomy

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 2003
Partial inferior turbinectomy with septoplasty is routinely carried out for airway obstruction. However, its effects on the sense of smell have not been systematically evaluated. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the influence of septoplasty with partial inferior turbinectomy on threshold and suprathreshold olfactory acuity.

Toxic shock syndrome following septoplasty and partial turbinectomy.

The Journal of otolaryngology, 1986
A rare case of toxic shock syndrome developing after an elective septoplasty and partial turbinectomy is reported. The sterile vaseline gauze packing acting as a "nasal tampon" is postulated as the mechanism of insult. The symptomatology, investigation and management of this case are discussed.
