Partial Word Order Syntax of Urdu/Sindhi and Linear Specification Language

On the number of squares in partial words [PDF]
Summary: The theorem of Fraenkel and Simpson states that the maximum number of distinct squares that a word \(w\) of length \(n\) can contain is less than \(2n\). This is based on the fact that no more than two squares can have their last occurrences starting at the same position.

Can one written word mean many things? Prereaders’ assumptions about the stability of written words’ meanings [PDF]
Results of three experiments confirmed previous findings that in a moving word task, prereaders 3 to 5 years of age judge as if the meaning of a written word changes when it moves from a matching to a nonmatching toy (e.g., when the word “dog” moves from

On Periodicity Lemma for Partial Words [PDF]
We investigate the function $L(h,p,q)$, called here the threshold function, related to periodicity of partial words (words with holes). The value $L(h,p,q)$ is defined as the minimum length threshold which guarantees that a natural extension of the periodicity lemma is valid for partial words with $h$ holes and (strong) periods $p,q$.

Partially abelian squarefree words [PDF]
A word of the form \(uu\), where \(u\) is a nonempty word, is called a square, and a word is squarefree if it contains no square as a factor (subword). It was shown already by A. Thue (1906) that for an alphabet with at least three letters there exist infinitely many squarefree words; for two letters the number is finite. An abelian square is a word of
